How to get Magby in Pokemon GO, and can it be shiny?

Participating in Charged Embers Hatch Day is one of the best ways to obtain Magby in Pokemon GO. This special event will take place on December 29, 2024, from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm local time. During this period, Magby, the Live Coal Pokemon, will not be available in the wild, in Raid Battles, or through Research Tasks. There are only a few ways to add the creature to your collection.

Magby was first introduced to Pokemon GO with the release of the Johto Baby Pokemon on December 12, 2016. Since then, the same methods have been used to obtain the Pocket Monster in the game.

Here are the two ways to get Magby in Pokemon GO as of December 2024:

• Hatch Eggs
• Trade

Hatch Eggs

When Magby debuted in Niantic's mobile game, trainers could find it hatching from Eggs. Initially, it was available in 10 km Eggs, but it has since rotated through 2 km, 5 km, and 7 km Eggs.

For Charged Embers Hatch Day, however, Magby will only appear in 2 km Eggs. To get one, you will need to hatch Eggs during the event’s window. The more Eggs you hatch, the better the chances of encountering a Magby with higher IVs.

When you hatch a 2 km Egg during the event, Magby will have a combat power (CP) between 704 and 756 CP. It will always be at Level 20 with a minimum IV of 10/10/10.

Trade

Another way to acquire Magby in Pokemon GO is through trading. If you have friends who can trade you a Magby, simply meet up at a local place and exchange Pocket Monsters.

Keep in mind that the traded Magby will retain its level but will have different IVs, which can affect its CP and HP. Additionally, make sure you have enough Stardust for the trade, as you won’t be able to complete it without the necessary resources.
