There are two ways to get your hands on Xerneas and Shiny Xerneas in Pokemon GO. The first is to defeat Xerneas 5-star Raid Battles, and the second is to win GO Battle League fights. Xerneas was introduced to GO players with the start of the Luminous Legends X Part 1 event on May 4, 2021. In the following year, Niantic decided to release Shiny Xerneas on October 8, 2022.

Both of these variants are rare Legendary Pokemon, so they are popular in the community.

If you want to join Pokemon GO Xerneas raids, you can do so from August 1, 2024, at 10 am local time to September 3, 2024, at 10 am local time. That being said, here is a guide to obtaining Xerneas and Shiny Xerneas in Pokemon GO.

1) Beat Xerneas 5-star Raid Battles

Xerneas is a single Fairy-type Pokemon from Kalos, so it is 160% weak to Poison- and Steel-type attacks. It is resistant to Bug-, Dragon-, Fighting-, and Dark-type moves; therefore, it is best to avoid them when building counters. That said, here are the counters that you should use to defeat Xerneas in raids.

Pokemon to beat Xerneas in Pokemon GO:

Dusk Form Necrozma with Metal Claw and Sunsteel Strike
Shadow Metagross with Bullet Punch and Meteor Mash
Shadow Excadril with Metal Claw and Iron Head
Nihilego with Poison Jab and Sludge Bomb
Dialga with Metal Claw and Iron Head
Naganadel with Poison Jab and Sludge Bomb
Melmetal with Thunder Shock and Double Iron and Bash

You can use the above counters to beat Xenreas Raid Hour from 6 pm to 7 pm local time on August 21, 2024, and August 28, 2024.

2) Win GO Battle League matches

As soon as developer Niantic organizes 5-star Raid Battles featuring Xerneas in Pokemon GO, trainers at Level 20 or above are offered encounters with the Pokemon if they happen to win skirmishes in the GO Battle League play.
