Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are hosting special Five-Star Tera Raids featuring Bellibolt and Corviknight. These encounters will be available until December 5, 2024. They give players the chance to find great variants of the featured creatures, with optimal Tera Typings and higher stats.

Of the two raid bosses, Bellibolt can cause the most trouble due to its potential to deal incredibly high amounts of damage with its signature ability. However, this has not stopped players from trying to take it down without help from others.

Unlike other Tera Raid bosses in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, Bellibolt has no set Tera Type. This makes it a bit hard to prepare for offensively, meaning the key to countering it in solo play is to use a creature that can tank whatever attacks the boss can dish out.

Bellibolt has access to Dark- and Electric-type attacks. It can also use Weather Ball. If no weather effects are present, Weather Ball is a Normal-type move with a base power of 50.

With this information, we can construct some optimal counters players can use to easily take down Bellibolt alone.

Best counters and strategies against Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's Bellibolt Tera Raid Boss

Excadrill is a great counter for Bellibolt thanks to its high damage output and defensive type advantage (Image via Game Freak)

Excadrill is one of the best and most accessible counters for this fight. Thanks to its Ground and Steel typing, it is immune to Electric attacks and resists damage from a neutral Weather Ball.

Excadrill also has access to potent buffing moves like Swords Dance and Hone Claws, which help increase its attacking power.

Here is a great build players can try for Excadrill:

  • Nature: Adamant (+ Attack, - Special attack)
  • Held Item: Shell Bell
  • Tera Type: Rock
  • Effort Values: 252 Attack, 252 Defense, 4 HP
  • Moves: Swords Dance, Earthquake, Rock Slide, Iron Head

This is a simple strategy that involves maxing Excadrill's attack stat and taking care of Bellibolt in a single blow with a super-effective attack.

For more experienced trainers with access to a wider selection of powerful creatures, Landorus makes for a great choice. Players will want to use the creature in its Therian form, as this will grant it the ability, Intimidate, lowering Bellibolt's physical attack.

Here is a build trainers will want to use for their Landorus:

  • Nature: Modest (+Special attack, - Attack)
  • Held Item: Shell Bell
  • Tera Type: Any
  • Effort Values: 252 Special Attack, 252 Defense, 4 HP
  • Moves: Nasty Plot, Earth Power, Psychic, Sludge Bomb

This moveset works similarly to the one used for Excadrill but utilizes special attacks over physical ones. It also has more coverage options to increase the range of Bellibolt raids it can take on.
