How to solo defeat Ampharos in Pokemon GO 3-star raids

Players may be wondering if they can solo defeat Ampharos in Pokemon GO as the critter is making a comeback as a Raid Boss. Since it will only be of 3-Star difficulty, trainers will easily be able to take it down as long as they have the right creatures on their team.

Ampharos is the final evolution of the Mareep family and is one of the few lucky Pocket Monsters to be capable of Mega Evolution.

Gaining the secondary Dragon typing, Mega Ampharos can be incredibly helpful for many trainers in Raid Battles. For this reason, they may not want to miss out on the opportunity to catch an Ampharos when it is available from July 23, 2024, until presumably July 25, 2024, as that is when the second part of the Ultra Unlock event begins.

What is super-effective against Ampharos?

Being a 3-Star Raid Boss in Pokemon GO, players will need to know about Ampharos' elemental typing in order to properly construct a team to counter it.

Ampharos is a pure Electric-type Pokemon, which means it is weak to Ground-type damage. In addition, players should avoid using Pocket Monsters of the Flying or Water elements, as they take super-effective damage from Ampharos' Electric attacks.

However, trainers should express caution when considering the Ground-type picks they use against Ampharos, as it has access to the move Trailblaze. This is a Grass-type attack, so it will be super-effective on most Ground-types, especially those that partially have a Water typing, like Swampert and Gastrodon.

Given that players will want to try solo defeating Ampharos in Pokemon GO, they will want to bring the best possible attackers in their raid party to compensate for the lack of other trainers participating in the fight.

What Pocket Monsters can solo defeat Ampharos in Pokemon GO?

Landorus Therian with Mud shot and Earthquake is one of the best counters players can use against Ampharos in Pokemon GO. Though it is partially a Flying-type critter, its Ground typing overwrites this weakness entirely. Its Flying typing also protects it from super-effective damage from Trailblaze.

For this reason, Gliscor is also a great choice for this raid. It is much more accessible that Landorus Therian since it is not a Legendary Pokemon.

However, Gliscor's damage output will be significantly less than Landorus Therian's, so players should run it with a moveset of Fury Cutter and Earthquake. This will allow the critter to spam Earthquakes for super-effective damage.

Mamoswine is an overall powerhouse with high attacking power and complimentary bulk. With a moveset of Mud-Slap and High Horsepower, it will be able to mow down Ampharos with heavy burst damage. However, its secondary Ice typing leaves it vulnerable against many of Ampharos' coverage options, so using one with maxed-out IVs is recommended.
