How to solo defeat Onix in Pokemon GO 3-star raids

Niantic has brought a new raid Pocket Monster for the Shared Skies season, Onix, in Pokemon GO 3-star raids. Trainers are now curious as to whether it’s possible to defeat the critter solo. Like Wigglytuff and Poliwrath raid battles, which are the features for this season, this Rock- and Ground-type entity can be defeated without a team's help. You will need strong counters and a solid moveset to make this happen though.

In this article, you will learn the best way to tackle Onix raids in Pokemon GO individually. We have prepared a list of counters that are highly effective against Onix.

Onix in Pokemon GO is a dual Ground and Rock-type Pokemon that specializes in using attacks of different types. It’s extremely weak to type moves of Grass and Water, followed by less effective Fighting, Ground, Steel, and Ice. On the other hand, it can withstand Electric, Poison, Fire, Flying, Normal, and Rock-type attacks.

In this 3-star raid featuring Onix, you will be given 180 seconds to beat the monster. However, during the phase, it will use the following Fast and Charged Moves against your counters:

• Fast Moves: Tackle and Rock Throw
• Charged Moves: Stone Edge, Rock Slide, Iron Head, Sand Tomb, Heavy Slam, and Breaking Swipe

None of the given moves can do 100 damage, except for the Stone Edge. Therefore, your counters will not receive heavy damage despite Onix being a powerful raid monster. However, dodging them is highly recommended.

In addition to these stats, the 3-star raid boss Onix in Pokemon GO sports a Hit Point of 9000 and a Combat Power of 9429. Moreover, its Attack stat would be 85 whereas its Defense stat would be 232. The stat distribution is not alarming by any means, and anyone with high-level trained Pokemon can win this raid.

You will have to create a list of strong Pokemon and moves that are effective against Onix. Furthermore, you should teach your counters STAB moves. This is because the STAB effect increases the total damage output of moves by 1.2 times.
