The Origin form of Palkia will return to Pokemon GO for one day on November 22, 2024. With the critter coming on the last day of the Into the Wild event, many players will eagerly be awaiting their chance to face off against this powerful Legendary from the Sinnoh region. While many trainers will take on this boss with their group of experienced raiding friends, some players may opt to take this threat on solo.

To solo any powerful Raid Boss in Pokemon GO, the right Mega Evolution is the key. Mega Evolutions power up other participating creatures matching their types. In this case, players will need to bring Mega Rayquaza. With this pick's Dragon and Flying typing, other Dragon or Flying-type Pokemon will receive a power boost.

Along with Mega Rayquaza, players can bring a team of powerful Dragon-type Pokemon, as Origin Palkia is weak to the element. Picks like Shadow Salamence and Shadow Dragonite are the best options thanks to their strong attacking power. The Shadow boost ensures that they will deal enough damage to take out Origin Palkia within the strict three-minute time limit.

Here is a great team players can use for taking care of Origin Palkia in Five-Star Raid Battles:

  • Mega Rayquaza with Dragon Tail and Breaking Swipe
  • Shadow Salamence with Dragon Tail and Outrage
  • Shadow Garchomp with Dragon Tail and Outrage
  • Shadow Dragonite with Dragon Tail and Outrage
  • Zekrom with Dragon Breath and Outrage
  • Dialga with Dragon Breath and Draco Meteor

One clever player on the Silph Road subreddit managed to take down this Raid Boss with just a Mega Rayquaza and a Shadow Salamence. Having used an interesting strategy, user Nikaidou_Shinku shared the video showcasing their fight with Origin Palkia.

This strategy focuses on having enough healing items to keep Mega Rayquaza in fighting condition. With enough Max Revives, or Revives with Potions, players can give up the fight when Mega Rayquaza faints, then quickly revive it to full health, then join back in the battle.

Shadow Salamence may occasionally be swapped in for some burst damage with Draco Meteor, but Mega Rayquaza will be the important damage dealer for this Raid Battle.

Niantic has confirmed that Origin Palkia will be available in its shiny variant. Being a Five-Star Raid Boss, Origin Palkia has a 1 in 25 chance of appearing as a shiny after being defeated in battle. While this is higher than most instances of finding Shiny Pokemon, it is not guaranteed. So, players may need several attempts if they plan on hunting this rare variety of Origin Palkia.
