Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are hosting another Tera Raid event in 2024 (from November 15 to November 17 and then again from November 22 to November 24), featuring Torterra, the Grass-type starter from the Sinnoh region. While the creature is at a 7-star difficulty level, some players may feel tempted to take it on without the assistance of other trainers.
The game offers AI-controlled NPCs to assist any player in Tera Raids. However, the creatures they have access to offer little use against higher-tier bosses, leaving the trainer to carry the whole encounter.
Here is everything players should know if they intend on taking this route to defeat the Ground Torterra Raid Boss in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.

Everything to know about Ground Torterra in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet
In Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, Torterra without a Tera Typing already possesses a Ground typing. As such, the game plan for taking on Ground Torterra will not change much compared to the standard variant.
Scrapping its primary Grass typing, Ground Torterra is weak to Ice-, Water-, and Grass-type attacks.
With access to Shell Smash, Earthquake, and Wood Hammer, Torterra will be more than capable of one-shotting any creature controlled by an unprepared trainer.
Using Flying-type creatures will not make for an easy win either, as Ground Torterra has access to Smack Down, which deals super effective damage to them and removes their immunity to Ground damage.

Best counters to Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's Ground Torterra Tera Raid
The best possible counters to Ground Torterra are Grass-type creatures as they cannot be hit super-effectively by any of the raid boss' attacks and deal large amounts of damage. Let's look at some of the best choices players can use to solo this fight.
Here's a great build trainers can try for Appletun, a Dragon- and Grass-type Pocket Monster:
- Nature: Modest (+ Special Attack, - Attack)
- Held Item: Shell Bell
- Tera Type: Grass
- Effort Values: 252 Special Attack, 252 Defense, 4 HP
- Moves: Apple Acid, Grassy Terrain, Recover, Reflect
Reflect and Grassy Terrain serve as utility options to decrease the amount of damage Torterra will deal with its attacks. Recover keeps Appletun healthy, restoring around half of its maximum HP with each use. Apple Acid lowers the target's defense with each use, exponentially increasing Appletun's damage output.
Here is another build players can use if they have access to Serperior:
- Nature: Modest (+Special Attack, - Attack)
- Ability: Contrary
- Held Item: Shell Bell
- Tera Type: Grass
- Effort Values: 252 Special Attack, 252 Defense, 4 HP
- Moves: Leaf Storm, Grassy Terrain, Giga Drain, Synthesis
This build relies heavily on Serperior's Contrary hidden ability. This is because Leaf Storm usually lowers the user's Special Attack stat, but with Contrary, it increases the stat instead. Grassy Terrain is available to help lower Torterra's damage. Giga Drain and Synthesis are around to keep Serperior in top condition.
