Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are now hosting two special event Tera Raids featuring Annihilape and Kingambit until December 19, 2024. While these raids are meant to be taken on by parties of trainers through online play, some players may want to grind large quantities of these raids for the rewards they offer without wasting time lobbying up with others.

Thankfully, Kingambit can be defeated by only one human user. However, this creature does not have a set Tera Typing, meaning the strategies players can use to defeat may change from instance to instance. Here is everything trainers should know when taking on Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's Kingambit event raids.

Preparing for the Kingambit Raid Boss can be a bit difficult given its ever-changing Tera Typing. However, one factor that will always remain consistent is the moves Kingambit uses. This allows players to counter the boss defensively, preventing it from doing any serious damage while they take it down with appropriate attacks.

Kingambit will have access to Kowtow Cleave, Iron Head, Night Slash, and Slash. Only having access to Steel, Dark, and Normal-type attacks with no elemental coverage, it can be very easy to wall it off from dealing even neutral damage. Additionally, it would be better to hit it with special attacks in the event it uses Iron Defense.

One of the best counters to Kingambit is another Kingambit. Thanks to its Dark and Steel typing, it resists every attack this Raid Boss has. Kingambit also has a surprisingly deep move pool, allowing it to take a wide variety of coverage options to participate in many different match-ups. Here is a great build players can try:

  • Nature: Adamant (+ Attack, - Special attack)
  • Held Item: Shell Bell
  • Tera Type: Any
  • Effort Values: 252 Attack, 252 HP, 4 Defense
  • Moves: Swords Dance, Iron Defense, Low Kick, Iron Head

The biggest draw to using Kingambit is its defense. With this in mind, its move pool can be adjusted depending on what players need. The pick has access to tons of great coverage options like Stone Edge, Shadow Claw, Zen Headbutt, and X-Scissor, which can help you counter the opponent's varied Terastallization choices.

Arceus is one of the best choices for players to take into any Tera Raid in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. This is thanks to its ability to change types depending on the item it holds, in addition to its wide move pool granting it access to helpful utility. Here is an Arceus build players can try:

  • Nature: Modest (+ Special attack, - Attack)
  • Tera Type: Any
  • Held Item: Whatever plate gives it a type advantage
  • Effort Values: 252 Special Attack, 252 HP, 4 Defense
  • Moves: Judgement, Acid Spray, Recover, Calm Mind

Acid Spray can be used to lower Kingambit's special defense stat, which can allow Arceus to easily cut down the boss with Judgement, its signature move that also changes its type with the item Arceus holds. All players need to do is give a max-level Arceus an advantageous plate before the fight and it should be a free win.
