About Meltan
Meltan is a steel-type Pokemon made specifically for Pokemon Go and the two Let’s Go games. This Pokemon has a body made of molten metal and evolves into a very powerful Pokemon with enough candy. While it’s weak to fire, ground, and fighting moves, Meltan resists a total of 11 types!
Meltan will appear everywhere in the wild once the Mystery Box is used.
How to Get Meltan in Pokemon Go
There are a few ways to find Meltan in the wild. The first was added on Meltan’s release which is a long string of Research Tasks which eventually lead to Meltan. Since the event for this Research Quest is over now, they will only appear randomly and are not reliable for catching Meltan.
The other, more reliable, way to get Meltan is through an item called the Mystery Box. This is obtained by transferring a Pokemon from Pokemon Go to Pokemon Let’s Go for the Switch.

To get Meltan through the Mystery Box you will need a version of Let’s Go on Switch, as well as a Pokemon to send to the Switch.
Step by Step Guide on How to Get Meltan in Pokemon Go
Step 1: Connect your Pokemon Go to the Switch and transfer a Pokemon to Pokemon Let’s Go.
Step 2: Receive and use the Mystery Box. Meltan will now begin spawning in the world for 30 minutes.
Step 3: Capture the Meltan that appear in the world.

How to Evolve Meltan into Melmetal
Melmetal, being the evolution of Meltan, is even harder to get than its pre-evolution. You’ll need to gather 400 Meltan candy so be ready for getting lots of Mystery Boxes and using every Pinap Berry in your pocket. But once the long grind is over, you’ll have a Melmetal, an incredibly powerful mythical Pokemon that is the only one of its kind to evolve.

- Meltan is the only Mythical Pokémon that is capable of evolution.
- They are the only Pokémon in the National Pokédex of Pokémon GO and Pokémon HOME (Switch only) to not be listed in a region section. Instead, they are put into "Unknown" and "Unknown Origins" respectively.
