How to get the Sinnoh Stone in Pokemon Go

Generation four of the mainline Pokemon games brought in new evolutions to many of everyone’s favorite pocket monsters. If you liked Tangela before, well now Tangrowth is Tangela but bigger. Need an evolution for your best friend Lickitung? Lickylicky is here for you, and is also just Lickitung but bigger. Even if the core ideas of these Pokemon aren’t very unique, they were new, and they’re new again now that they’ve been added to Pokemon Go. But unlike the other games, Go requires the use of special stones in order to acquire them, so you’ll need to learn how to get it before acquiring your new Piloswine but bigger.

What is the Sinnoh Stone in Pokemon Go

The Sinnoh Stone is a rare consumable item in Pokemon Go used to trigger evolutions in Pokemon from the Sinnoh region. Not all Sinnoh Pokemon require this stone, it's mostly Pokemon who already existed previously that got new evolutions in the Sinnoh region. Similar to old Pokemon getting new Alolan or Galarian forms.

As mentioned before, these stones are very rare and are even locked behind a level requirement. You must be level 10 before you can even attempt to find a Sinnoh Stone. But once you are, complete as many research tasks as you can as it's the best way to find them. Each time you complete a large number of research tasks, you will earn a research breakthrough, which rewards you with bonus items like Stardust, XP, Pokeballs, Pokemon encounters, and on very rare occasions a Sinnoh Stone.

If grinding away at writing Professor Willow’s books isn’t your cup of tea, there is another way to get Sinnoh Stones. After winning a PvP battle there is a small chance of receiving a Sinnoh Stone. So instead of prowling the outdoors for the tenth bug Pokemon Willow asks you to catch, you can have fun battling your friends and still unlock the new evolutions as you do.

Using the Sinnoh Stone

Once you’ve obtained a Sinnoh Stone, you can now use it to evolve a Pokemon. These evolutions still require candy so remember to stock up on candy from Pokemon you want to evolve. The Pokemon that use the Sinnoh Stone to evolve are:

  1. Aipom evolves into Ambipom with one Sinnoh Stone and 100 Candy

  1. Lickitung evolves into Lickilicky with one Sinnoh Stone and 100 Candy

FAQ

How long will it take to get a Sinnoh Stone?

The fastest research is updated weekly so if you get stones through research it’ll be only a couple chances a week, meaning only a few days between stones. If you PvP the chances are lower but you can do it more than the research so it might also be a day or two or faster.

How do other Sinnoh Pokemon Evolve?

Those with good knowledge of the Pokedex may notice that the Pokemon listed here aren’t all the new evolutions that Sinnoh added. That’s because the other three Pokemon that get new evolutions, Magneton, Eevee, and Nosepass, all evolve into Magnezone, Leafeon, Glaceon, and Probopass respectively having them in range of a specific kind of Lure.

Conclusion

For those who want to complete their Pokedex or just want their Rhydon to get even bigger and bulkier, these stones are absolutely necessary. The farming might take some time, especially if you try to get every evolution but once you have them all, there’s no need for Sinnoh Stones after that unless you want duplicate Pokemon. It's nice for a Pokemon Go journey to have an ending point for once.
