Umbreon in Pokemon Go

Pokemon Go, like other Pokemon games, has a number of evolutions for the Pokemon Eevee. Also called ‘Eevee-lutions,’ these Pokemon are some of the more well-known and well-loved in the series and one of the most popular ones is the dark type Pokemon, Umbreon.

About Umbreon

About Umbreon

Umbreon is a Psychic-type Pokemon that was originally introduced in the Pokemon games Gold and Silver. This Pokemon is closely tied to the moon and possesses a variety of dark-type moves to take down psychic types. Though even with its strengths, it has some strange weaknesses. Keep this Pokemon away from the bug, fairy, and fighting-type moves to keep it safe.

Umbreon is not native to any region or area and instead is only obtained by evolving them from Eevee.

Requirements to Get Umbreon

Requirements to Get Umbreon

The first and most obvious requirement is needing an Eevee to actually evolve into Umbreon. Being a normal type, Eevee is relatively common and can appear anywhere. They don’t have special areas they appear in like Fire or Electric types so search for Eevee wherever you like.

Requirements to Get Umbreon

You will probably need to catch more than one Eevee. Having an Eevee as your buddy will only give you one Eevee Candy every 5 Kilometers (3.1 miles) leaving you with only two by the time the Eevee has walked enough to evolve. You will need to catch a couple more Eevee to gain the required 25 Eevee Candy to evolve one.

How to Get Umbreon in Pokemon Go

In a Nutshell:

Set an Eevee as your buddy, walk with it for 10 km, and farm for at least 25 Eevee candy, then feed the candy to your buddy Eevee at night. It will then evolve into Umbreon.

How to Get Umbreon in Pokemon Go

Umbreon only comes from evolving an Eevee but in a very specific way. First, the Eevee you want to evolve must be your buddy Pokemon and must have already walked 10 Kilometers (6.2 miles) with you. You will then need to feed the Eevee 25 Eevee Candy only at night. This mirrors the evolution method for Umbreon’s sister Pokemon Espeon, which requires the same steps but only during the day.

Naming Evee into Tamao to get Umbreon

Since it can be random which ‘Eevee-lution’ the Eevee may evolve into, name the Eevee ‘Tamao’ to guarantee it evolving into an Umbreon as specific names will force Eevee to evolve into different forms.

Step by Step Guide on How to Get Umbreon in Pokemon Go

Step 1: Catch multiple Eevee until you have at least 25 Eevee Candy. You can transfer some Eevee to Professor Willow for extra Candy but make sure to keep at least one for evolving.

Step 2: Make the Eevee destined for evolution your buddy and walk with them for 10 Kilometers (6.1 miles). This might take some time so try setting the first Eevee you catch as your buddy so it walks with you while you’re looking for candies.

Step 3: Give your 25 Eevee Candy to your buddy Eevee at night. Remember, don’t do it during the day, or else the Eevee will evolve into an Espeon instead.

Trivia

Umbreon is the only Eeveelution that had a unique type combination in its debut generation.

Umbreon was designed by Atsuko Nishida.

In the Pokémon of the Year poll held by The Pokémon Company in 2020, Umbreon was voted as both the most popular Generation II Pokémon and the most popular Eeveelution, receiving 67,062 votes. It was also voted as the fifth most popular Pokémon overall.

Conclusion

While maybe not the strongest Eevee-lution out there, its typing makes it formidable still and aside from battle, it is still well-loved. Even though all the effort it may take to reach the requirements for Umbreon’s evolution, it's well worth it as an addition to the team and as a friend.
