As Pokemon Unite celebrates its third anniversary, players have been treated to a host of exciting updates and announcements. However, the most significant news revolves around a major change coming to the game: the removal of EX Pokemon licenses.

This announcement, made via the official Pokemon Unite Twitter account, has sparked widespread discussion and speculation about the future of the game and its balance dynamics. This article provides a closer look at what this means for players and the overall gameplay experience.

Introduced in December 2023, EX licenses aimed to showcase the strength of Legendary Pokemon in a manner accessible to all players. This new classification was designed to balance battles and introduce weaknesses alongside strengths, adding a new layer of strategy to the game.

However, after reviewing player feedback gathered through surveys, the developers found mixed reactions. While new players and those unfamiliar with Pokemon appreciated the EX licenses, veteran players sought a more balanced gameplay experience. As a result, the EX license classification will be removed in the September 2024 update.

Players expressed a desire for the power levels of EX licenses to be comparable with those of other Unite licenses. Additionally, the restriction of EX licenses in some ranked seasons reduced the number of selectable Pokemon, which many felt, detracted from the overall enjoyment of battles.

Recognizing these concerns, the developers have decided that the EX license classification did not achieve the intended goal of enhancing the fun and dimensionality of Unite battles.

With the removal of EX licenses, several Pokemon will undergo balance adjustments to align them more closely with the rest of the roster. The developers aim to create a more balanced and enjoyable competitive environment by ensuring these powerful Pokemon do not overshadow others.

Additionally, to maintain a well-balanced battle environment, regular balance adjustments will be made. The roster of over 60 Pokemon has seen some Pokemon remain staples in battles while others have been overlooked. To address this, balance adjustments will occur once a month, with minor tweaks in between to keep the gameplay fresh and engaging for all players.

This clearly shows that the developers of Pokemon Unite are indeed listening to their players' feedback and constantly innovating. All the changes to the EX licenses and the rebalancing are targeted at optimizing the general player experience while retaining long-term excitement.

With the September update, players can look forward to a refreshed game and further expansion of the field by allowing more of their favorite Pokemon to enter battle. Without the EX licenses, this is a huge change that Pokemon Unite brings and promises a much more balanced and competitive game for everyone.
