With Pokemon GO's upcoming Aspiring Dragons research day soon to begin, many players are busy with their last-minute preparations for the celebration. Moreover, while some may be willing to take the extra step of purchasing the event's ticket, they may want to know if it is worth spending money on.

Much like other event tickets in Pokemon GO, the Aspiring Dragons event ticket is a decent value for users who intend to spend a lot of time on the game during the celebration. However,m it might not be a good investment for users who are only going to log on occasionally.

This ticket can be purchased for $2 and it unlocks a special Timed Research that incentivizes players to complete as many field research tasks as possible. This grants them even more encounters with the Pokemon that are highlighted during the event.

These creatures include:

  • Trapinch
  • Swablu
  • Skrelp
  • Horsea

This ticket does not offer any bonuses to resource generation or egg-hatching distance.

Should you buy Pokemon GO's Aspiring Dragons research ticket?

Pokemon GO's research ticket is relatively underwhelming in terms of what it offers, and the creatures players can encounter (Image via Niantic)

Interestingly, even hardcore players might find this ticket and the event as a whole relatively underwhelming. The creatures offered through the research missions pitched by the event are far from the Dragon-types players would rather encounter like Dratini or Gible. Instead, they are mid-tier creatures, who eventually adopt the Dragon typing, as the event's name implies.

While the creatures encountered from research tasks receive a boost to their shiny rates, the ones from the ticket are not boosted further, making it quite lackluster for shiny hunters as well. The upside to the ticket is that it allows users to select the creature they wish to encounter, which can be convenient for users who wish to evolve a Swablu due to the species' high evolution requirement.

As previously mentioned, none of the creatures from this event's research excel in any type of battle, excluding potential special formats like Premier Cups. Swablu's evolution, Altaria, is the only one of the group capable of Mega Evolution, which can make it useful for certain types of Raid Battles.

Overall, the Aspiring Dragons research ticket in Pokemon GO is not worth the investment for casual or hardcore players. The lack of rewards and low-tier encounters is most likely why this ticket is $2 compared to the more common $5 price point. Even with the low price point in mind, the lackluster quality of the encounters and research rewards does not justify its purchase.
