Appearance
Ivysaur is a Pokémon with dark spots on its blue-green skin and it walks on all 4 legs. It has pointy ears with black insides on top of its head, as well as narrow red eyes while the snout of an Ivysaur is short and rounded. It also has a large mouth, two sharp teeth in the upper jaw and has three claws on each of its feet. Its back bulb has blossomed into a big pink bud with it supported by a slender brown stem encircled by lush green fronds.
Behavior
The plant's weight stops Ivysaur from moving quickly or standing on its hind legs and this forces its legs to get stronger. When the flower is ready to bloom, it emits a strong, sweet-smelling scent and begins to expand. In preparation for its future evolution, Ivysaur will begin spending more time in the sunshine. The strength of both Ivysaur and its plant increases when they are exposed to sunshine which is probably why Ivysaurs are mostly seen near plains.
Strengths and Weaknesses
Since it is a dual Grass/Poison type Pokemon, it is resistant against Grass, Water, Electric, Fighting, and Fairy-type moves taking only half the normal damage from each of these. In contrast, it is weak against Flying, Fire, Ice, and Psychic Pokemon and thus takes double damage.
Mega Ivysaur:
There is no mega variant of Ivysaur, unlike its evolved form Venusaur which can evolve into Mega Venusaur.
Best Moveset
Vine Whip | Razor Leaf |
Power Whip | Sludge Bomb |
Vine Whip is the preferred fast move for Ivysaur due to greater energy generation which allows Ivysaur to take advantage of its powerful charge moves. Razor Leaf is a more polarizing fast move that focuses on dealing damage without requiring energy or being denied by shields, though its slow energy generation causes Ivysaur to lose some neutral matchups. Power Whip is a very strong move that takes advantage of STAB to be a major threat to anything that doesn't resist it while Sludge Bomb acts as a good STAB coverage move that can also give it an edge against other Grass-types.
How to catch Ivysaur in Pokémon Go?
Since Bulbasaur is available to be caught in the wild, it is preferable to go to an area with lush forests or parks to find one. To catch a Bulbasaur, start looking for nests where 2KM eggs may be found and once you find one, grab a 2KM egg and hatch it. You should be able to get a Bulbasaur although it does depend on your luck. Many players have also claimed to have discovered and caught their first Bulbasaur in smaller parks. Once you have found a Bulbasaur, feed 25 candies and it evolves into Ivysaur.
