It’s known as a fierce predator and tough battler with it numbered 141 on the National Pokédex.

Appearance

Kabutops stands 1.3 meters tall and looks like an aquatic praying mantis. It has a brown carapace, long white scythes, two-toed claws, and white belly plates. Not only that, its wide, flat head and aerodynamic body help it swim through the water at high speed. The hard shell and the spikes along its back helps defend Kabutops from any predators it may have.

Behavior

Kabutops Appearance

Kabutops is a formerly extinct Pokémon that researchers have revived from ancient fossils. Its physiology made it a ferocious predator both in the ocean and on land. It can swim at extremely high speed, and it’s known for ambushing its foes and it feeds by slicing its prey open to consume their fluids.

Strengths and Weaknesses

Kabutops’s Rock and Water typing gives it a good defense against Normal, Ice, Poison, and Flying-type moves, and it takes half the normal damage. However, it takes quarter the damage from Fire-type moves but is weak to Electric, Fighting, and Ground-type moves and takes quadruple the normal damage from Grass-type moves.

Shiny Kabutops

Shiny Kabutops

Shiny Kabutops trades its brown body for a bright green body while the white accents all over its body become a brighter shade of the same colour. This palette swap makes it easy to spot Shiny Kabutops in Pokémon collections and battles. And like all shiny Pokemon, Shiny Kabutops also gains a starry animation upon entering battle as well.

Kabutops is a sturdy physical attacker with good sweeping potential on Rain Dance teams. Stone Edge and Waterfall provide strong STAB damage, while Aqua Jet is an excellent priority STAB attack. Thanks to its solid defense and tough typing, Kabutuops typically has plenty of time to set up with Swords Dance before sweeping with the power boost from its Life Orb. An Adamant nature maxes Kabutops’s Attack and reduces its Special Attack.

How to catch Kabutops in Pokemon Go?

Thankfully, Kabutops is more readily available in Pokémon Go than it is in many main Pokémon titles. It has appeared as a Raid Boss and an event Pokémon, and is even found in the wild alongside its pre-evolution Kabuto. The easiest way to catch Kabutops, however, is to evolve Kabuto with 50 Kabuto candies although that is made tough thanks to the fact that it has a medium buddy distance of 5km.

Trivia

  1. Kabutops shares its category with Blastoise as they are both known as the Shellfish Pokémon.
  2. Kabutops’s design is inspired by various prehistoric aquatic predators and scavengers, including horseshoe crabs, eurypterids, and trilobites.
  3. Kabutops’s name originates from the Japanese word kabuto, which means helmet, and the Greek word ops, which means face.

FAQs

Is Kabutops a legendary Pokemon?

Kabutops is a rare fossil Pokémon that is only found in certain regions of the Pokémon world, but it isn’t a legendary Pokémon.

Is Kabutops a better Pokemon than Omastar?

Kabutops is more offensive with high Attack stats, while Omastar is more defensive with high Special Attack stats. Both Pokémon are fairly evenly matched but occupy different roles on the competitive battle scene.

Does Kabutops have a mega evolution?

While many popular Pokémon received Mega Evolutions in Pokémon X and Y, and Pokémon Sun and Moon, Kabutops did not. This means, unfortunately, that there is no Mega Kabutops in the official canon. However, Mega Kabutops can be found in some fan-made art and spinoffs.
