With Dynamax in Pokemon GO having completed a month in circulation, players would be interested to know which group of starters is more effective in Max Battles—the ones from Kanto or the ones from Galar? At the outset, the OG three have been around since the inception of the game, so they have more moves at their disposal. However, that is not the only thing that counts.

This article explores the differences between the Dynamax Kanto starters and Dynamax Galar starters in Pokemon GO, to help you discover, which ones you should prioritize farming for an advantage in future battles.

What Dynamax starters are the best for Max Battles in Pokemon GO: Kanto or Galar?

Charizard vs Cinderace

Pokemon's poster child Charizard is miles ahead of its Galar region counterpart. Firstly, being a dual type, Charizard has more STAB options and defensive advantages. With access to attacks like Fire Spin and Air Slash, it can use both Max Flare and Max Airstream—giving more utility in battles.

While Cinderace hits harder on paper, thanks to its Attack being higher by 15 points, Charizard is slightly more bulky. Moreover, the latter in Pokemon GO already has access to Blast Burn, the strongest Fire-type attack in the game.

This puts the Charizard at a higher level than Cinderace in all respects.

Blastoise vs Inteleon

Blastoise and Inteleon fulfill separate classes in Max Battles. While Dynamax Blastoise has more coverage—with Bite (Max Darkness) and Water Gun (Max Geyser)—and is great at soaking damage, Inteleon is a glass cannon.

For fights where Water-types are good, it is better to use them simultaneously. Tank damage and charge your Dynamax Meter with Blastoise, and switch in Inteleon to ship out powerful Max Geysers.

Venusaur vs Rillaboom

Like Charizard, Venusaur also has the added advantage of a secondary typing—in this case, Poison. This also gives it additional coverage. However, in Venusaur's case, there is no Max Move coverage option, as it only learns Grass-type Fast Attacks. That said, it has access to Frenzy Plant, which can deal significant damage in non-Dynamax form.

Rillaboom, on the other hand, has a much higher Attack and Stamina stat, making it more effective when you are looking for Grass-type damage.

Verdict

While Charizard is miles ahead of Cinderace as a Fire-type, Blastoise and Inteleon synergize well together. Between Venusaur and Rillaboom, the latter is a better pick when the defensive Poison-typing doesn't add any value.

Another thing to consider is that all the Kanto starters can also Mega Evolve in Pokemon GO. Therefore, if you find one with perfect IVs, they can fill a dual role of being both Dynamax and Mega attackers.

All things put together, as a group the Dynamax Kanto starters outshine the Dynamax Galar starters in Pokemon GO as of October 2024. After the latter gets its Community Day in 2025 or if there are any balance changes, things might look different.
