Last Modified Dec 16, 2021 09:54 GMT

Introduced in generation five, with Pokemon Black and White games, Klinklang is a monotype steel Pokemon. It is the final evolution of its three stage evolution line and evolves from Klang, which evolves from Klink when they reach the level thresholds. Klinklang is classified by the Pokedex as the “Gear Pokemon” which is likely a reference to its general design. This guide will showcase Klinklang’s capabilities in battle, its appearances in the anime, as well as other general facts about Klinklang.

About Klinklang

As a generation five Pokemon, Klinklang first appeared in the Black and White season of the anime in the episode Evolution Exchange Excitement!. In this episode, a Klinklang appears with a pen caught in its gears. It shows up later in Battling the Bully!, where it was revealed that the sunglasses Krokorok had accidentally dropped the pen into Klinklang’s gears. The Pokedex mentions that Klinklang can function as an energy tank.

Appearance

Klinklang is a small mechanical Pokemon that resembles a group of gears. Most of its body is varying shades of gray and one of the smaller gears on Klinklang’s body has a face. It has one eye, an open mouth, a large blue nose, and a bandaged eye. Other than this face, Klinklang has no discernable features. Klinklang is constantly in motion and its gears fall into each other to make its whole frame spin. Klinklang is a small Pokemon at only 2 feet, or 0.6 meters, tall.

Behavior

Some of the spinoff games of the Pokemon franchise have shown Klinklang’s gears are independent of one another. However, this phenomenon is not referenced since its appearance in Pokemon Mystery Dungeon. The red core at the center of Klinklang’s body can store tremendous energy. This energy can be used to launch gears and powerful blasts of electricity from its spikes. The Pokedex mentions that its red core will charge the minigear to make it ready to fire.

Strengths and Weaknesses

Klinklang has a powerful line up of base stats. It has a strong physical attack and defense matched with a decent special defense and speed. Unfortunately, it does have a weak health pool, so Klinklang cannot last long in battle. However, its Clear Body ability can make it difficult to slow down Klinklang’s stat changes. As a monotype steel Pokemon, Klinklang takes 2x damage from fighting, ground, and fire type moves. It is immune to poison type moves and resistant to normal, flying, rock, bug, steel, grass, psychic, ice, dragon, and fairy type moves.

Best Moveset

In competitive play, Klinklang can be considered as a scaling offensive Pokemon. Its base statline is powerful, it just needs time to set up and sweep the opposing team. With the Clear Body ability preventing negative stat changes, Klinklang can often find the time to scale into a powerful Pokemon. Consider running Shift Gear, Gear Grind, Wild Charge/Return, and Magnet Rise/Substitute. This set attempts to scale Klinklang’s stats with Shift Gear. It then uses Gear Grind and Wild Charge/Return to knock out its opponents. You can use Magnet Rise or Substitute depending on which defensive option you would prefer. While Substitute is more of an all around defensive choice, Magnet Rise can counter one of Klinklang’s defensive weaknesses.

How to Catch Klinklang in Pokemon Go?

If you would like to obtain a Klinklang in Pokemon Go, the easiest way to do so would be to first obtain a Klink and eventually evolve it into a Klinklang. Like most fully evolved Pokemon, its base evolution spawns more commonly in the wild. You can find Klink spawning in the wild at a boosted rate near modern buildings, railroads, and other commercial areas. Klink can also be hatched from 10 km eggs. While Klang and Klinklang have not appeared as raid bosses, Klink has been featured as a tier one raid boss at Pokemon Gyms. To evolve Klink into a Klang will take 25 candies. It will require another 100 candies to evolve Klang into a Klinklang.

Trivia

  1. Despite being a genderless Pokemon, Klinklang is referred to as a male Pokemon in the PokePark 2: Wonders Beyond entry.
  2. The inspiration for Klinklang’s design likely comes from a set of interlocking gears.
  3. The name Klinklang is a combination of its pre-evolution’s names Klink and Klang.

FAQ

Is Klinklang any good?

While Klinklang has a good line up of base stats, its low health pool prevents it from being truly powerful. Most strategies with Klinklang aim to scale its stats to prevent its opponents from keeping up with it. However, Klinklang’s low health causes it to get knocked out before it can reach its full potential.

Can Klinklang evolve?

Klinklang is the final evolution in its three stage evolution line. It is the final evolution of Klink and evolves from Klang. Klink will evolve into Klang once it reaches level 38, and Klang will evolve into Klinklang at level 49. There are no special conditions for this evolution line and all the Pokemon will evolve naturally upon reaching the level thresholds.

Is there a mega Klinklang?

There is no official Mega Klinklang in the mainline Pokemon games. It is not likely that Klinklang will receive a mega evolution in the future as the developers have been moving away from mega evolutions entirely. While Klinklang would benefit greatly from a mega evolution, it is not likely to be introduced in the future.

Conclusion

Congratulations, you now know just about everything there is to know about this “Gear Pokemon”. While Klinklang is not the most powerful Pokemon in competitive play, it can still be a powerful Pokemon. Even though Klinklang requires time in order to knock out enemy teams, it still has the potential to do so. A Klinklang with enough time can easily defeat an opposing team of Pokemon. Reserve a slot on your team for Klinklang if you want an aggressive steel type Pokemon.
