Introduced in generation three, with the Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire games, Lunatone is a dual type rock and psychic Pokemon. It is a standalone Pokemon, which means that it does not evolve from or into another Pokemon. However, Solrock is often considered its counterpart. Lunatone is classified by the Pokedex as the “Meteorite Pokemon” which is likely a reference to its general design. This guide will showcase Lunatone’s capabilities in battle, its appearances in the anime, as well as other general facts about Lunatone.
About Lunatone
As a generation three Pokemon, Lunatone first appeared in the Ruby and Sapphire season of the anime in the episode It’s Still Rocket Roll to Me!. In this episode, Gym Leaders Tate and Liza use Solrock and Lunatone against Ash and his Pikachu. While Lunatone holds some connections to Solrock, they are not connected by evolution. In fact, Lunatone does not evolve from or into any other Pokemon. The Pokedex mentions that Lunatone becomes more active during the night of a full moon.

Appearance
Lunatone is a small pale yellow Pokemon that resembles a crescent moon. Most of its body is a dull cream color, but the area around its eyes is black. Its mouth sits at the middle of the crescent but does not appear to open. There are small craters around Lunatone’s body to help support its connection to the moon. It has red eyes with black pupils, but no other discernible body parts. Lunatone is an average sized Pokemon at 3 feet and 3 inches, or 1 meter, tall.
Behavior
Lunatone can be commonly found near caves in the wild, especially during the full moon. For unknown reasons, other than its similar appearance to the moon, Lunatone becomes much more active during a full moon. During this time, Lunatone will float through the air, and the glow from its red eyes can be intimidating to see. A popular theory for Lunatone’s origins is that Lunatone came from outer space. The Pokedex does not confirm these origins, but mentions that Lunatone’s first appearance came from the site of a meteor strike.
Strengths and Weaknesses
While Lunatone is a standalone Pokemon, it is overall mediocre. It has stronger special stats than physical stats. Lunatone has the makings of an offensive Pokemon, but its lower than average speed stat holds it back from being threatening. While its Levitate ability provides some defensive resistance, Lunatone’s defensive type is weak overall. As a dual type rock and psychic Pokemon, Lunatone takes 2x damage from bug, ghost, steel, water, grass, and dark type moves. It is immune to ground type moves, and resistant to normal, flying, poison, fire, and psychic type moves.
Best Moveset
While Lunatone had its time in competitive play, it has since become an underwhelming offensive Pokemon. The release of newer Pokemon allowed for new strategies and it became difficult for Lunatone to keep up. However, Lunatone can still function as an offensive Pokemon. It just requires time to set up. With Life Orb, as a held item, Lunatone can be a menacing Pokemon. Consider running Rock Polish, Psychic, Ancient Power, and Earth Power/Shadow Ball. This set is aimed at scaling Lunatone’s stats and sweeping your opponent’s team. Use Rock Polish to get your Lunatone scaling and use the rest of its moveset to wipe out your opponent’s team.

How to Catch Lunatone in Pokemon Go?
If you would like to obtain a Lunatone in Pokemon Go, you will likely need to travel or communicate with other players. Lunatone is a region-locked Pokemon, which means that it can only naturally spawn in specific regions and in this case that is only in the Eastern Hemisphere. Within this region, you can find Lunatone spawning in the wild, at a boosted rate, near hospitals, grassy areas, and residential areas at night time. Lunatone can also hatch from 5 and 7 km eggs from these specific regions. It has also been featured as a tier three raid boss at Pokemon Gyms. Since Lunatone does not evolve from or into another Pokemon, you can save all the candies you collect to power up your Lunatone.
