Lurantis Pokémon

Last Modified Aug 18, 2021 08:05 GMT

Lurantis is a grass-type Pokemon that was introduced in Pokemon Sun and Moon, and evolves from Fomantis when leveled up during the day starting at level 34. The dependence on time makes Lurantis reminiscent of the Generation VII Pokemon as a whole. It resembles the orchid flower and the orchid mantis, which makes Lurantis stand out as a unique Pokemon design.

Appearance

Lurantis is a plant Pokemon that resembles an insect, specifically an orchid mantis. The upper part of its head is light pink, while the lower part is white and it has pale red eyes. It also has two green antennae with a small green bump in the middle. The top half of its head has four extensions: two on top, red tips like ears, one on each side, and white tips like styled hair. Lurantis has a light pink body, a wavy skirt-like extension at the waist, and green abdomen and neck. Its slender white arm has a red scythe at the end, white on the lower edge, and a green claw on the tip. It has vertical pink and red stripes on its legs and small, pointed green legs. The color and shape of Lurantis' body and arms make it look like it is wearing a long-sleeved dress, while its legs resemble pants. Four red wing-like appendages grow from its back, with each appendage having a white tip.

Behavior

Lurantis looks and smells like a flower, and it uses this feature to attract the enemy before launching a surprise attack. Its bright colors and graceful movements have earned it praise for being the loveliest grass-type Pokemon. However, Lurantis disguises itself as an insect Pokemon to protect itself and preserving its appearance requires careful grooming. If its trainer can take good care of it, Lurantis will trust easier and will have bright and gorgeous colors when properly cared for. By collecting light, Lurantis can use its sickle-shaped arm to fire a laser and these rays are capable of penetrating metal plates, allowing it to perform Solar Blade.

Strengths and Weaknesses

Lurantis is a good utility Pokemon for teams because of its decent defensive typing, good support options, access to the ability Contrary and the move Defog. Lurantis has overall high stats, with its highest stat being its attack stat. Its only noticeably low stat is it speed stat, which is half its other stats. As a monotype grass Pokemon, Lurantis is weak to flying, poison, bug, fire, and ice-type attacks but is resistant against ground, water, and rock-type Pokemon.

Shiny Lurantis

Shiny Lurantis is a version of Lurantis which is mostly yellow and lime green instead of pink toned and has teal eyes instead of pink eyes. The main way to get a Shiny Lurantis is to continuously breed either Lurantis or Fomantis until you get a Shiny Fomantis. That is since finding Shiny Pokemon in the wild is very rare and very time consuming. Like all shiny Pokemon, Shiny Lurantis gains a starry animation upon entering battle.

Lurantis GX

Lurantis GX is a stage one grass-type Pokemon card first released as part of the Sun & Moon expansion. Lurantis GX was included as a Regular card, a Full Art card, and a Secret card in the Sun & Moon expansion, first in the Japanese Collection Moon, with artwork by 5ban Graphics. The Regular print was reprinted as a Non Holofoil in the Japanese Grass Lurantis-GX Deck. The Lurantis-GX Deck is one of GX Starter Decks, a set of Japanese-exclusive Standard Decks for the Pokemon Trading Card Game that were released on July 13, 2018. Lurantis GX has the exclusive GX Pokemon mechanic called GX attacks which are based on the Z-Moves mechanic introduced in Pokemon Sun and Moon Games.

Best moveset

The ability Contrary works best for Lurantis since if this Pokemon has a stat stage raised it is lowered instead. Defog is the main reason to use Lurantis and it serves to eliminate entry hazards to the entire field. The combination of Leaf Storm and the ability Contrary provides Lurantis with a powerful STAB (same-type attack bonus) option, which can also increase its special attack to prevent Lurantis from being passive. Superpower is the preferred option for the third slot, because it can increase Lurantis' defense and provide excellent cover for hitting ordinarily grass-resistant Pokemon. Aromatherapy allows Lurantis to heal its status effects and remove the dangers of hazard setters. Alternatively, the move Synthesis can be used to allow Lurantis to heal himself in order to reduce the danger of passive physical attackers.

Trivia

  1. Lurantis is based on the reverse of the mimetic relationship of the orchid flower and the orchid mantis which could be referenced by its hidden ability Contrary

  3. Lurantis is also inspired by a kimono
  4. Lurantis may be a combination of lure (tempt to do something or to go somewhere), allure (the quality of being powerfully and mysteriously attractive or fascinating), fleur (French for flower), and mantis
