Appearance
Magearna is a metal biped Pokemon, mainly composed of spheres. Its head is a medium-sized sphere with a small dot on its back and around its head is a gear with seven teeth, although the gear does not cover its chin. It has two large ears, similar to rabbit ears, with golden edges; a small nose and mouth, and light red eyes with a pink oval in the middle. The center of the oval is a white cross, and there is a thin gold thread around each eye, with two small eyelash-like tips on it.
Rabbit ears appear to be two halves of a large disk, joined by a hinge at the top. The Magearna's upper body resembles a pushball: it is divided into two light blue parts by a thick gray band. In the front center of the band there is a circular depression that is half blue and half pink. Above and below the depression, the light blue part is a yellow diamond mark and on either side of its upper body is a huge spherical shoulder, the upper arm is thin, the forearm is large and claw-shaped, and the hand is slightly pointed. The lower part of its body is a larger sphere, similar to a ball gown and there are a pair of golden wavy lines on each side of this dial, and a gray line separates the front and back. On the back, there is a pure gold ring with a hole in the middle of the bottom of this line. There are also two golden lines in the center of its body that nearly form a broken circle, and the center is shield-shaped. The lower body is decorated with metal plates that resemble the frills of a dress and it has two pointed legs.
Behavior
Magearna was created by a scientist 500 years ago with the sphere on the chest of this Pokemon called the Soul-Heart, and the scientist created it by collecting life energy from other Pokemon. The Soul-Heart is the real body of Magearna and it can perceive the emotions, thoughts or feelings of other Pokemon. Since it can feel the pain of others, Magearna will do everything possible to save injured Pokemon. Whenever it is sleeping or sad, Magearna will resemble a PokeBall. It is also a Pokemon capable of fully understanding human speech and acting accordingly, but it cannot speak itself. Magearna is the only known Pokemon that can learn the move Fleur Cannon.
Strengths and Weaknesses
As a Mythical Pokemon, Magearna has higher than average stats with an especially high special attack stat and a high defence as well as high special defence stats. Despite this, Magearana has a relatively low speed stat although it is still high compared to many others and can be raised continuously in battle with the move Shift Gear. Within battle, Magearna also has use of the ability, Soul-Heart, it has its special attack raised by 1 stage when another Pokemon faints. As a dual steel and fairy-type, Magearna is weak to ground and fire-types, immune to poison and dragon-types, and resistant to normal, flying, rock, bug, grass, psychic, ice, dark, and fairy-types.
Magearna Forms
When it was first created, Magearna's body was primarily painted gold, leading to the existence of an alternate Magearna form, Original Color Magearna which was not made available until the release of Generation VIII's Pokemon HOME despite having been present in Pokemon Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun, and Ultra Moon. While the only difference in its form is aesthetic, Magearna also has a shiny form, though the shiny form is currently unobtainable within the games. Shiny Magearna is the only unobtainable Shiny Pokemon that has exclusively appeared in the anime, since it has appeared in Lillie’s house in Pokemon the Series: Sun & Moon. Until the release of Generation VIII, Magearna's Shiny color scheme was identical to the regular one, since Shiny Magearna was unobtainable and while it is still unobtainable. Pokemon HOME and Pokemon Sword and Shield Version 1.2.0 included data for Magearna's Shiny palette despite it not being available within the actual Pokemon games.
Shiny Magearna
A Shiny Magearna was seen within Lillie’s home in Pokemon the Series: Sun & Moon after having been purchased by Mohn as a gift for Lillie. Within the games itself, Magearna's Shiny color scheme was identical to the regular one until Generation VIII, as a Shiny Magearna was unobtainable. Though a Shiny Magearna is still unobtainable, Pokemon HOME and Pokemon Sword and Shield Version 1.2.0 includes data for Magearna's Shiny palette, which is a completely silver version of Magearna.
Original Color Magearna
While Magearna does not have any known evolution, it does have an alternate form in Original Color Magearna, which has the colors it was originally painted with. Original Color Magearna was not made available until the release of Generation VIII's Pokemon HOME where players can earn Magearna by having a full National Pokedex registered within the app. When it was invented, Magearna's body was mainly painted in gold, although it was lighter than the highlights and edges that adorn its body. The ears and the upper part of its lower body are painted red to match the color of the ordinary PokeBall. This bright color indicates that it is a gift to the royal family, with the princess who received it being known to have been very pleased with it.
Best moveset
The ability Soul-Heart causes Magearna to have its special attack raised by 1 stage when another Pokemon faints. It means that Magearna has the ability to snowball its stats with the ability and the move Shift Gear, which makes it very hard to check late-game, since Shift Gear raises its speed by 2 and its attack by 1. Thunderbolt and Ice Beam serve as type coverage and Flash Cannon serves as Magearna’s main STAB (same-type attack bonus) move.
Shift Gear | Thunderbolt |
Ice Beam | Flash Cannon |
