Magneton Pokémon

Last Modified Aug 24, 2021 06:10 GMT

Magneton is a Generation 1 electric and steel-type Pokemon which evolves from Magnemite starting at level 30. Prior to Generation II, Magneton was a pure steel-type but it had a type change and even had an evolution, Magnezone, introduced in Generation IV. A Magneton evolves into Magnezone by either being leveled up in a special magnetic field, in the cases of Generation IV to VII, or by being exposed to a Thunder Stone, in the case of Generation VIII.

Appearance

Magneton is a fusion of three Magnemites and each individual Magnetite has a gray monocular sphere, a horseshoe-shaped magnet, and a gray and red and blue tip on each side. There are three Phillips head screws on the top Magnemite’s fuselage, while the others seem to have only two. The three Magnemites that make up Magneton can be connected in various ways. Magneton is most often regarded as a Magnemite at the top and two Magnemites at the bottom connected by screws to form a triangle. In some cases, commonly found in 3D games such as Pokemon Snap, Magnemite will not connect at all, and will maintain a triangular shape when stationary, and can move freely in each other's neighborhood to form other patterns. In this case, the three Magnemites have three screws.

Behavior

The magnetic force combining the three Magnemites is sufficient to absorb all the moisture and raise the temperature within a radius of 3300 feet (1000 meters) to 3.6 ° F (2 ° C). It can also cause damage to electronic equipment and it uses powerful radio waves to help investigate the surrounding area. Magneton is composed of three Magnemites, although it is not three times smarter but its electrical power is approximately three times greater. Although Magneton is a mechanical creature, it still needs to eat and in the anime, its food consists of electric current. It usually appears on rugged terrain, usually near power plants but when sunspots do erupt, Magnetons tend to appear more frequently, which may be due to changes in the sun's magnetic field. When the rain cloud forms, it will also gather in areas with high lightning proneness and as seen in the manga, it has the ability to transform electricity into platforms and obstacles. Despite its modern man-made appearance, sculptures depicting Magnetons were found at the Alf site and one of them appeared in flashbacks of the Carlos War, indicating that it has existed for at least 3000 years.

Strengths and Weaknesses

Magneton has a very high special attack stat and a relatively high defence stat but the rest of its stats aren’t very notable, with Magneton’s HP stat being pretty low. As a steel and electric-type, Magneton is weak to fighting, ground, and fire-types, immune to poison-types, and resistant to normal, flying, rock, bug, steel, grass, electric, psychic, ice, dragon, and fairy-types.

Shiny Magneton

Shiny Magneton is a version of Magneton which is tinted to resemble a pale copper or bronze instead of the usual silver. The main way to get a Shiny Magneton is to continuously breed either Magneton or one of its other forms until you get a Shiny Magnemite in order to evolve it into Magneton, since finding Shiny Pokemon in the wild is very rare. Like all shiny Pokemon, Shiny Magneton gains a starry animation upon entering battle.

Best moveset

Thunderbolt and Flash Cannon both serve as Magneton’s main STAB (same-type attack bonus) moves in order to inflict damage. Hidden Power serves as effective type coverage, and Volt Switch allows Magneton to escape from unfavorable matchups quickly while dealing damage.

How to catch Magneton in Pokemon Go?

As an electric-type, Magneton can be found more often near industrial buildings, college campuses, and dry climates and as a steel-type, it can be found more often within cities or near railroad tracks. Due to its typing, Magneton can also be found more often during rainy or snowy weather. Magneton was available as a Tier Three raid boss for the full Ultra Unlock Part One: Time event in Pokemon GO in July, 2021. Magneton evolves from Magnemite which costs 25 Candy, and Magneton evolves into Magnezone which costs 100 Candy.

Trivia

  1. As shown in the Pokemon Red and Blue beta, Magneton was originally named "Recoil"
  2. Magneton and its pre-evolved form, Magnemite were the first Pokemon to change its type with the progress of generations
  3. Although it is said that Magneton is made up of three Magnemite, there is contradictory evidence seen in various forms of media: in the anime episode, Get Along, Little Pokemon, when Ethan's Magnemite #6 evolves into Magneton, it appears to create two Magnemite during evolution, instead of combining with two real Magnemite, in the main series games, when Magnemite reaches level 30, it evolves without two additional Magnemite, in Pokemon Snap, a Magneton is clearly shown to be created by three Magnemite, when two Magnemite get stuck together halfway through evolution in the original Mystery Dungeon games it is mentioned how three Magnemite must come together to evolve, and after evolution, Magneton becomes exactly ten times heavier than Magnemite when it logically it should be three times heavier if it were actually made of three Magnemite
  4. Magneton and Magnemite are two of few Pokemon that had their cry changed slightly in Generation III since Generation III utilized a better sound effects game engine and newer game system
  5. Magneton has been used by more rival characters than any other Pokemon: Blue, Silver, and Wally
  6. Despite most depictions of Magneton showing it capable of floating through the air, Magneton does not have the Ability Levitate, so it is still affected by ground-type moves, though after Generation IV, Magneton can learn Magnet Rise, which simulates Levitate for five turns
  7. Magneton is a cluster of three Magnemite, which seems to be inspired by electromagnetism, one of the four fundamental interactions of nature, as well as being inspired by an air drone
  8. Magneton may be a reference to Bohr magneton, a unit of magnetic moment for electrons, or magnetron forms which reside in the core of a microwave oven
