Introduced in generation three, with the Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire games, Manectric is a monotype electric Pokemon. It is the final evolution of Electrike and will evolve once it reaches the level threshold. This guide will showcase Manectric’s capabilities in battle, its appearances in the anime and other general facts about Manectric.

Appearance
Manectric is a canine-like Pokemon with a blue body and spiky tufts of yellow fur all over it with the same yellow tufts around its front paws. On its head, it has a spiked yellow mane that ends in three points while Manectric’s tail is a bent, spike-like tail that is bent backwards towards its body rather than outwards. It is fairly large for a dog-like Pokemon at 4 feet and 11 inches, or 1.5 meters, tall.
Behavior
Manectric has not appeared that often over the course of the anime and its few appearances are typically through gym leaders or various trainer interactions. To go along with its dog-like appearance, it is very loyal and playful but its relationship with its trainer typically shapes its behavior. The Pokedex states that they are quite rare and will hardly appear before people and will typically be found where lightning has fallen, which indicates a comfort with thunderstorms.
Strengths and Weaknesses
Many of Manectric’s base stats lines are mediocre but, its special attack and its speed are respectable which makes it a decent offensive Pokemon. However, it is just a little too frail to see success in competitive formats. As a monotype electric Pokemon, Manectric is only truly weak to ground type moves and is resistant to flying, steel, and electric type moves. Since its resistances are fairly low, this is difficult to properly use a Manectric.
Mega Manectric
The yellow tufts of fur on Mega Manectric’s body become much more pronounced as compared to a regular Manectric. The blue fur on Mega Manectric’s body also becomes much spikier to align with the rest of its design. Like most mega evolutions in the franchise, Mega Manectric gets to enjoy a 100 total base stat boost to its regular stat line. These stats, most notably, go into its speed and special attack making it more proficient in battle as an offensive sweeper. The claws on Mega Manectric’s design also turn from white to red.

Best Moveset
Most of Manectric’s usability comes from its mega evolution form. If you can run Mega Manectric in the generation you are playing competitive battle in, you should but this does mean its held item is reserved for Manectite. To see success with Manectric in competitive play consider running Volt Switch, Thunderbolt, Flamethrower/Overheat, and Hidden Power Ice. Volt Switch will give you an efficient switch out move, Thunderbolt benefits from STAB (Same Type Attack Bonus) as well as functioning as Manectric’s main source of damage, Flamethrower and Overheat are interchangeable as a fire type move for coverage, and Hidden Power Ice is also a type coverage option.

How to Catch Manectric in Pokemon Go
Like most final evolution Pokemon, if you want to obtain a Manectric in Pokemon Go, the easiest way to do so would be to obtain an Electrike and eventually evolve it into its final form. While Manectric can spawn in the wild, it is a lot more common to run into Electrike, which makes things easier as you will need to obtain a total of 50 Electrike candies in order to evolve it. Of course, if you want to skip the candy grind, you can also find Manectric in tier two raid battles in Pokemon Gyms, so keep an eye out for the raids.

Trivia

- The inspiration for Manectric’s design likely comes from the Raiju, a creature from Japanese mythology that can take on the shape of various mammals.
- The name Manectric is likely a combination of the words mane and electric.
FAQ
Is Manectric a good Pokemon?
Manectric has typically been in the bottom of competitive tier brackets since its release. With the introduction of its mega evolution, it has become much more usable, typically floating around the middle of competitive brackets.Yet despite that, it has a strong special attack with a good speed stat to back it up. In casual play it will function better than its competitive tier list implies.
How does Manectric evolve?
Manectric does not technically have another stage beyond it. It is the final evolution but in generation six it received a mega evolution. In order to access its mega evolution in battle, it needs to hold a Manectite item and only then can it mega evolve. Manectric will evolve from Electrike upon reaching level 26.
What is Mega Manectric’s Weakness?
Mega Manectric’s type does not change upon mega evolving and thus anything that beats regular Manectric can beat Mega Manectric. As a monotype electric Pokemon, it will only take 2x damage from ground type moves and is resistant to flying, steel, and electric type moves.
Conclusion
Congratulations, you now know just about everything there is to know about this “Discharge Pokemon”. Manectric’s impact on the competitive scene is rather minor but its statline makes it usable and yet it is simply outclassed by many other Pokemon from the franchise. Since it received a mega evolution, it has become a lot more usable in the games. Manectric’s appearances in the anime show it as a loyal and playful Pokemon. If you have ever wanted a dog that has electric capabilities, reserve a slot on your team for Manectric.
