Appearance

Marshadown Appearance

Marshadow is a humanoid Pokémon with a smoky gray shadow appearance. Two curled horns or ears protrude from the top of the helmet with a wispy horn between them. It has orange-red eyes with yellow pupils and a yellow oval marking above each eye. The wrists of each arm have a slight hump while a smoky collar surrounds its neck and each foot has a trail of shadows.

Behavior

Marshadow's fighting spirit begins to flame when it is enraged or attacked, like when it uses its special Z-Move. This causes it to become Zenith Marshadow. Its headpiece, wrist bumps, and collar flare up in this state with them enveloped in green and yellow flames. Marshadow's eyes also flare in this state but do not change color. While hiding in the shadows of others, it can understand their feelings and copy abilities. Through mimicry, it can even become more powerful than those it imitates.

Strengths and Weaknesses

Marshadow takes no damage from either Normal or Fighting-type moves and is also relatively strong against Bug-type moves taking only a quarter of the normal damage from them. Not only that, Marshadow takes half the normal damage against Rock and Poison-type moves so it is also considerably strong against them. In contrast, it is weak against Flying, Psychic, Fairy, and Ghost types taking twice the normal damage from each move.

Shiny Marshadow

Shiny Marshadow is only apparent when it is in its Zenith form, where its green head, collar and wrists change to purple instead. Marshadow changes into its Zenith form when attacking or when it's angry. Marshadow is shiny locked, so any Shiny Marshadows in the public are illegitimate.

Best Moveset

Marshadow is an incredibly strong choice for anyone who wishes to battle at a competitive level. Thanks to its diverse typing and powerful moves, it lends itself well to offensive strategies. Having STAB on both ghost and fighting type moves as well as being immune to extreme speed makes it very reliable against powerful Pokémon. Furthermore, its ability, Technician, allows certain under-powered abilities such as shadow sneak to be used to great effect and its Z-move lets it, breakthrough beefy opponents.

Spectral Thief and Close Combat are Marshadow's strongest STAB moves. Spectral Thief's ability to steal stat boosts from foes can cause trouble for opposing setup Pokemon, especially physical ones. Additionally, it dissuades foes from trying to set up on teams with Marshadow, causing even more trouble to offensive teams. Shadow Sneak provides a strong option to beat or revenge kill faster Pokemon that could otherwise threaten Marshadow. Rock Tomb can take down Flying-type Pokemon such as Ho-Oh and can also slow down Choice Scarf users, allowing Marshadow to outspeed them.

Trivia

  1. Marshadow's effort value yield of 2 Attacks and 1 Speed is unique.
  2. No other Pokémon has the same type of combination as Marshadow.
  3. Marshadow is the only Pokémon whose STAB combination is unresisted by any existing Pokémon—the only type combination to resist both Ghost and Fighting is the currently unused Normal/Ghost.
  4. In M20, Marshadow was shown to be able to cause nightmares. However, it can't learn Nightmare.

It is worth mentioning that Marshadow does not have any evolutionary family which makes it even more unique.
