The year 2025 is finally here, and with it comes another New Year celebration for Pokemon GO. This event is iconic in the Pokemon GO community due to one creature it always seems to bring back: costumed Wurmple. While the creature is typically underwhelming, something about seeing the little guy in a party hat gets everyone excited.

Many users on the Pokemon GO subreddit have shared such sentiments, with one post by Phoeniks_C kickstarting a conversation with their post to the message board, expressing their excitement for the return of costumed Wurmple.

Wurmple is one of the few creatures to have a split evolution path, meaning it has two different evolutions. It ultimately evolves into either Dustox or Beautifly. Neither of these creatures are particularly good battlers by any capacity, which is why Wurmple has such a lack of hype around it any other time of the year.

Despite this, many users like Pokewins101 share their appreciation for the time of year bringing this costumed variant to the mobile game. The reason for this is more in-depth than it just being a funny little guy in a hat. Being a low-tier Pokemon, they are incredibly easy to capture and land excellent throws on.

Pokemon GO's New Year celebration for 2025 granted players an additional 2,025 XP if they catch a creature with an excellent throw. As such, these Wurmples also make for great XP farms for beginning to intermediate players. This always makes them worth capturing, and their appearance worth celebrating.

As shared by many users like Quantum_Dandy48, the most recent wave of costumed Wurmples had a chance of spawning in their shiny variants. This makes costumed Wurmple a valuable specimen for collectors. While it is unfortunate that these kinds of Wurmple cannot evolve, some would argue that they are already perfect.

Many others like DunderMiffinbecca have expressed happiness with this Wurmple's return. Given all of the benefits that come with the appearance of costumed Wurmple, it embodies a lot of what makes an event worthwhile for free-to-play users.

Why do players love Pokemon GO's New Year's Wurmple?

As mentioned, the love for the party hat version of Wurmple goes deeper than just cherishing a little guy in a big hat. Wurmple's low pawer makes it easy to catch, and its capture circle is much larger than other wild Pokemon. This makes landing excellent throws against it much easier.

For the New Year event, players could easily rack up large amounts of XP. Wurmple is also quite a common creature, so it's very easy for players to find mass amounts of them in a short time. This also pairs well with its higher chance of being found in its shiny variant. With so many bonuses being available off of one creature, even without the need for an event ticket, it has become a staple of Pokemon GO's New Year celebrations.
