Medicham

Last Modified Sep 22, 2021 07:41 GMT

Introduced in generation three, with the Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire games, Medicham is a dual type fighting and psychic Pokemon. It is the final evolution of Meditite and does not evolve any further. Medicham is classified by the Pokedex as the “Meditate Pokemon” which may be a nod to its general behavior. This guide will showcase Medicham’s capabilities in battle, its appearances in the anime, as well as other general facts about Medicham.

About Medicham

As a generation three Pokemon, Medicham first appeared in the Ruby and Sapphire season of the anime in the episode Pros and Con Artists. It played a minor role in this episode as one of the contestants for the Fallarbor Contest. Medicham will evolve from Meditite at level 37 and while it received a mega evolution in generation six, this is still considered to be a Medicham. The Pokedex states that Medicham will meditate to sharpen its sixth sense and sense what others are thinking.

Appearance

Medicham is a bipedal, humanoid Pokemon that is mostly pink with its body similar to a human’s with large puffy pants on. The pants are hot pink colored with yellow trimmings and its feet resemble a slender shoe. Medicham also has slender arms that extend out into a hand with three digits. On its head is a headpiece with three yellow circles in an upside down triangle pattern. Medicham is an average sized Pokemon at 4 feet and 3 inches, or 1.3 meters, tall.

Behavior

Medicham is a reclusive Pokemon that prefers to stay on its own and meditate. In fact, it will avoid eating for over a month just so that it can enjoy peace and quiet. Through meditating, it has become capable of psychic powers and it can predict its foes' next moves. Medicham is known to be an elegant Pokemon, even in battle and will typically attack with dance-like steps and precise blows. The Pokedex states that through meditation it was able to sharpen its sixth sense and increase its energy.

Strengths and Weaknesses

Regular Medicham is woefully weak in terms of its base stat totals as only its speed stat is decent, but the rest of its stats are mediocre for a final evolution Pokemon. With its mega evolution, its stats became considerably more powerful and its ability Pure Power doubled its physical attack. As a dual type fighting and psychic type Pokemon, Medicham takes 2x damage from flying, ghost, and fairy type moves but has no immunities. It is, however, resistant against fighting and rock type moves.

Best Moveset

Since Medicham’s debut in generation three, it has not made a big impact on competitive play. But things changed in generation six as Medicham got a mega evolution and it has become a relevant offensive Pokemon. Its increase in base stats gives it a chance to outspeed other offensive Pokemon and its Pure Power ability will often One Hit KO your opponent’s Pokemon. Consider running High Jump Kick, Ice Punch, Fake Out, and Thunder Punch/Zen Headbutt/Bullet Punch. High Jump Kick benefits from STAB (Same Type Attack Bonus), Ice Punch is for type coverage, Fake Out can give you a free turn of damage, and Thunder Punch/Zen Headbutt/Bullet Punch are all interchangeable depending on which type of Pokemon you would like to cover.

How to Catch Medicham in Pokemon Go

If you would like to obtain a Medicham in Pokemon Go, the easiest way to do so would be to first capture a Meditite to eventually evolve into Medicham. Like most final evolutions, the base evolution is a more common spawn to encounter in the wild. Furthermore, Meditite can be hatched from 2 and 5 km eggs, and also spawns, in the wild, at a boosted spawn rate near hospitals, gyms, sports centers, and residential areas at night time. Meditite has appeared as a tier one raid boss and Medicham has been a tier three raid boss at Pokemon Gyms. In order to evolve your Meditite into Medicham you will need 50 Meditite candies to evolve it.

Trivia

  1. The inspiration for Medicham’s design seems to be based on Arabian belly dancers.
  2. The name Medicham is a combination of the words meditate and champion.

FAQ

How good is Medicham?

Before generation six, Medicham was not particularly powerful even with the Pure Power ability. It struggled to fulfill the offensive role as its speed did not allow you to capitalize on this incredible ability. Luckily with generation six, it received a stat boost of 100 throughout all its base stats making it much easier for Medicham to fight in competitive formats.

Does Medicham evolve?

Medicham is the final evolution in its line as it evolves from Meditite at level 37 and does not evolve further. With the generation six games, Medicham received a mega evolution, but this is still classified as a Medicham and does not have its own unique Pokedex entry. Medicham does technically evolve, but Medicham does not have another stage beyond itself.

Why is Mega Medicham so good?

Mega Medicham is a threatening Pokemon as any attack that connects will likely knock out your Pokemon. Its physical attack is already respectable at its base, but Pure Power will double the attack values. If you are not careful, a Mega Medicham can easily wipe out an entire team even if they are primarily defensive Pokemon.

Conclusion

Congratulations, you now know just about everything there is to know about this “Meditate Pokemon”. While Medicham on its own was not particularly powerful in competitive play, its mega evolution is one of the most powerful physical attackers available in the franchise. If you have the opportunity to use a Mega Medicham, you will be surprised at how much damage Medicham is capable of doing. Reserve a slot on your team for Medicham if you want an offensive physical attacker.
