Psychic-type Pokemon are not often known for being bulky or psychically powerful but Metagross is the exception, not the rule. This hulking dual steel/psychic type not only has the strength of even the most powerful fighting types but also a supercomputer of a brain.

Appearance of Metagross
Metagross is said to be two of its pre-evolved form, Metang, magnetized together and it shows. It has four arms instead of six, and a body twice the size. Its face is covered with a metal ‘X’ which creates a permanent scowl as it stares down its opponent. Though a strange-looking Pokemon, it still manages to intimidate.
Behavior of Metagross
Metagross is incredibly intelligent. Its brain is more powerful than even our best computers and this sly, quick, and perfect thinking makes it a terrifying opponent. Not only does it have the strength to take down its enemies, but the brains to make sure it makes it hurt as much as possible.
Strengths and Weaknesses
Metang is an absolute monster when it comes to strengths. Its steel/psychic typing gives it one of the best resistance coverages in all of Pokemon as it takes half damage from normal, flying, rock, steel, grass, ice, dragon, and fairy-type moves. And beyond that, it takes 25% damage from psychic type moves and is completely immune to poison type moves. Though it's not all resists, it has a few weaknesses. Metagross takes double damage from ground, ghost, fire, and dark type moves.
Shiny Metagross
Shiny Metagross is a brilliant silvery-white color. It comes in stark contrast with its normal form, and Shiny Metagross has more than just one color change. The metal spikes and ‘X’ on the face of a Shiny Metagross are now gold and pair with its body to not only intimidate opponents but make their trainers jealous that their opponent gets to have a walking hunk of bling.
Mega Metagross
Mega Metagross is the ultimate form of this Pokemon. Taking the concept of Metagross being made of its pre-evolved forms, Mega Metagross adds some Beldums to the mix as well as adding to its intimidation. Its spiked claw-like hands are much larger and now facing forward, making Mega Metagross seem even more ready to tear opponents to shreds. Mega Metagross can also float now which seems to be a theme in the superpowered forms of psychic Pokemon.
Shiny Mega Metagross
Shiny Mega Metagross is the ultimate combination of Metagross forms. Not only is Shiny Mega Metagross the ultra-powered form of Metagross, still featuring the intense scowl now paired with giant claws and the psychic ability to float, but now Shiny Mega Metagross is just that, shiny. Shiny Mega Metagross is a giant lump of silver and gold ready to tear your team apart and it looks the part to a T.
Metagross GX
Metagross GX is a rare and powerful Pokemon card for the Pokemon Trading Card Game. Metagross GX is a special GX form of the Pokemon meaning it has a unique GX ability called Algorithm GX. Metagross GX can also come in both a normal form and a silver and gold shiny form. Though not always this expensive, a well-kept Metagross GX card can sell for up to $30!
Best Moveset for Metagross
All-out Attacker: Metagross is incredibly powerful even without setup or support so it can easily go for the reckless full-on offense strategy with strong physical moves and high speed. Though recklessness can be paired well with Protect in order to play some mind games with the opponent and outsmart them as your supercomputer-brained Metagross would want.
Iron Head | Zen Headbutt/Thunder Punch |
Ice Punch/Stomping Tantrum | Protect |
Long play Setup: Though Metagross is powerful on its own, relying on it alone might not get you far when up against resistant Pokemon. This is when Metagross shines as a Substitute setup Pokemon, boosting its attack to one-hit KO every opponent.
Substitute | Hone Claws |
Earthquake | Zen Headbutt/Meteor Mash |
How to Catch Metagross in Pokemon Go
Metagross can be found in the wild in Pokemon Go, though due to its evolution line already being rare, and it being the final step in the line, it's far more likely to evolve Metang into Metagross. By capturing a Metang and giving it 100 Beldum candy, it will evolve into a Metagross.
