The Pokemon UNITE World Championship 2024 came to an end on August 18 with Japan’s Fennel becoming the undisputed champions. The team completely dominated their way to the Grand Finals, where they outplayed South Korea’s Xora Tigers Gaming by a scoreline of 3-0. The squad received a cash prize of $100,000.
The Group Stage of the Pokemon UNITE World Championship 2024 was held on August 17, where 26 teams fought in the Single Round Robin structure. The top 16 teams advanced to the Playoffs, which was contested on August 18.

The UNITE championship featured a total prize pool of $500,000. The 16 top teams, who competed in the Playoffs, received a share of the total prize pool. Here is the prize pool distribution:

These 26 teams were seeded into eight groups for the first phase of the Pokemon UNITE World Championship 2024. The best two teams from each group registered their names in the Playoffs. Fennel was impressive in this initial stage as well. They topped their group by winning both matches.
In the Playoffs, Fennel hammered Issen Aumento from the Philippines in their first encounter. They then faced Takon Esports from the Philippines in the Quarterfinals and also managed to clinch the battle. The Japanese squad hammered ONIC Esports in the Semifinals and reached the Grand Finals.
On the other side, Xora Tigers Gaming beat Team MYS and Zeta Division in their first two matches. The South Korean brigade then outclassed Fusion in the Semifinals and qualified for the Finals.
In the Grand Finals, Fennel maintained their superiority and defeated Xora Tigers Gaming. The squad was phenomenal in all three rounds of this finale and secured the Pokemon UNITE World Championship title. For the first time, a non-North American team won the world championship trophy in the scene.
This was the third edition of this mega event. Initially, a total of 30 teams had qualified for the tournament but four teams, including India's S8UL Esports, were unable to join the competition due to visa issues.
