The Pokemon Company reveals new Indian Pikachu costumes ahead of festive season

At the celebratory event titled Pokemon Festivities held in Mumbai, India, on October 16, 2024, The Pokemon Company revealed the addition of two new Indian Pikachu costumes. The male variant would be sporting a navy blue kurta with a beige vest, while the female would be clad in a pink saree. Both attire sets feature the Mago Berry, an in-game item based on India's national fruit mango, and the Poke Ball motif, signifying the company's commitment to developing the franchise's reach in India over the next couple of months.

The interest in India can be seen from the lineup of events that The Pokemon Company has planned starting with the festival season in the subcontinent. This article will go over them.

To start, a limited edition Pokemon Festivities Gift Box, developed by Yakult Danone India Pvt. Ltd. and featuring the new Indian Pikachu costumes, will be available until October 31, 2024, across urban metros such as Delhi, Mumbai, and Bangalore.

A Pokemon Mela will be organized at Phoenix Marketcity, Vimannagar, Pune from December 6 - 8, 2024. It will feature mini-games, stage shows, gift campaigns, as well as opportunities to interact with the new Indian Pikachu costumes.

Pokemon GO players will be able to capture Pikachu wearing Saree in the game from November 1 - 4, 2024, as part of the Festival of Lights event. Its shiny will also be unlocked at release.

The mobile game will also feature Ritesh and Genelia Deshmukh as its ambassadors in India. On this note, Omar Tellez, vice president of Niantic, Inc. added,

"We are thrilled to introduce Pikachu's Indian look into Pokemon GO ... for millions of players who enjoy [the game]. To further celebrate the Festival of Lights this year, we have exciting raids and in-game activities lined up."

Overall, the upcoming months hold several promises from The Pokemon Company for fans of the franchise in India. The release of new Indian Pikachu costumes is perhaps the most exciting aspect of it and headlines the different events.
