Introduced in generation six, with the Pokemon X and Y games, Pangoro is a dual type dark and fighting Pokemon. It is the final evolution of Pancham and evolves after reaching the level threshold and once a unique condition is fulfilled. Pangoro is classified by the Pokedex as the “Daunting Pokemon” which indicates its behavior. This guide will showcase Pangoro’s appearances in the anime, its capabilities in battle, as well as other general facts about Pangoro.
About Pangoro
As a generation six Pokemon, Pangoro first appeared in the X and Y season of the anime in the episode The Bamboozling Forest!. It has a short temper and typically appears as wild Pokemon in the anime. Pangoro is the final evolution of a two evolution line and will only evolve once Pancham reaches level 32 while you have another dark type Pokemon in your team. The Pokedex states that Pangoro is quite violent and prone to bullying.

Appearance
Pangoro is a bipedal, panda-like Pokemon as most of Pangoro’s furry body is white or gray with no visual eyeballs, but rather, markings where the eyes would be. Its characteristics draw from stereotypical, juvenile, delinquents in Japanese culture. The chewing stick in Pangoro’s mouth is often what delinquents in Japanese media are shown in tandem with. It also appears to have a short cape/jacket around its back with three-fingered paws, a blunt snout and rounded black ears. Pangoro is a tall Pokemon at 6 feet and 11 inches, or 2.1 meters, tall.
Behavior
Many of the encounters with Pangoro in the anime showcase them as wild Pokemon rather than a trainer’s Pokemon. They also seem to stay in groups to accomplish no good together and this could imply their rebellious nature as well as their violent nature. The Pokedex states that “Pangoro is the type to talk with its fists” as well as describing their aggressive behavior. The leaf in Pangoro’s mouth can also help it sense the moves of its opponents.
Strengths and Weaknesses
Pangoro has a strong physical attack stat alongside with a respectable health pool, however, that is about all it has to offer. Its resilience is sub-par and its speed is horrible but luckily, it has good typing to help it hold its own in battle. As a dark/fighting type Pokemon, Pangoro is 2x weak to fighting and flying moves while taking 4x damage from fairy moves. It is immune to psychic attacks and will resist rock, ghost, and dark type moves.
Best Moveset
Since Pangoro’s introduction in generation six, it has been near the bottom of competitive brackets. While it is certainly capable of dealing large amounts of damage, it finds a hard time outspeeding even the slowest Pokemon. Nevertheless, if you want to capitalize on its high physical attack, use a Life Orb/Choice Band held item. Consider running Superpower, Knock Off, Gunk Shot, and Ice Punch/Parting Shot. Superpower and Knock Off both benefit from STAB (Same Type Attack Bonus), Gunk Shot and Ice Punch are for type coverage and finally Parting Shot can give you an efficient switch out.

How to Catch Pangoro in Pokemon Go
If you would like to obtain a Pangoro in Pokemon Go, the easiest way to do so would be to obtain a Pancham to eventually evolve into Pangoro. Like most final evolution Pokemon, its base evolution is a more common spawn and Pancham can also hatch from tier 4 strange eggs, but it requires you to walk 12 km to hatch them. You can try searching for fighting and dark type spawns near stadiums, gyms, or any time at night to increase the likelihood of Pancham spawning in the wild. Unfortunately, it does not seem as if Pangoro has appeared as a raid boss in the past and thus you will need to collect enough candies to evolve it. You will need 50 Pancham candies in order to evolve it into Pangoro.
Trivia
- The name Pangoro is a combination of the words panda and gorotsuki (Japanese for rogue) or gorogoro (a Japanese onomatopoeia for rumbling sounds)
- The inspiration for Pangoro’s design is likely based on bancho, a Japanese juvenile-delinquent.
- Pangoro’s evolution line was designed by two different designers, Hitoshi Ariga designed Pangoro while Megumi Mizutani designed Pancham.

FAQ
Is Pangoro a good Pokemon?
Pangoro certainly hits hard but it is far from a good Pokemon. It has trouble surviving extended battles thanks to its low resilience stats as well as often going last due to its awful speed. However, Pangoro has a strong physical attack along with good defensive typing which makes it reliable in casual play.
What Number is Pangoro?
Pangoro is the 675th Pokemon in the Pokedex. The Pokedex will label every Pokemon with a number typically sequentially with its evolutions. However, Pokemon that were released in a prior generation will gain priority over sequential order with evolutions. Therefore, you can use this number to remind yourself which generation a Pokemon was released in.
What Generation is Pangoro from?
Pangoro was released in the generation six games, or more specifically, Pokemon X and Y. Its entire evolution line was released during the same generation so it should also be in sequential order in the Pokedex. Despite its evolution line being released in the same generation, it has a rather unique evolution requirement. Pancham needs to hit the level threshold of 32 while you also have another dark type Pokemon in your party.
Conclusion
Congratulations, you now know just about everything there is to know about this “Daunting Pokemon”. While Pangoro’s impact on competitive play is limited, it does function as an offensive glass-cannon Pokemon. If your Pangoro can connect with the opposing Pokemon, you can rely on it dealing a considerable amount of damage. Even though it is relatively weak compared to many other offensive Pokemon, it is somewhat memorable as a Pokemon that requires more than a level threshold or a stone in order to evolve.
