Introduced in generation seven, with the Pokemon Sun and Moon games, Passimian is a monotype Fighting type Pokemon. It is a standalone Pokemon, meaning it does not evolve from or into another Pokemon. Passimian is classified by the Pokedex as the “Teamwork Pokemon” which may be a nod to its general design. This guide will showcase Passimian’s capabilities in battle, its appearances in the anime, as well as other general facts about Passimian.

About Passimian

As a generation seven Pokemon, Passimian first appeared in the Sun and Moon Series of the anime in the episode Touchdown of Friendship!. However, this episode was banned by Nintendo and never aired outside of Japan. Passimian made its English debut in the episode A Young Royal Flame Ignites!, where it is owned by another trainer. The Pokedex mentions that Passimian forms groups of roughly 20 individuals, with each member performing an assigned role.

Appearance

Passimian is a black, white, and green Pokémon resembling a primate. Most of its body is white except for its dark colored shoulders, legs, tail, and muzzle. It wears a green helmet similar to the coconut it is holding, with an orange stripe on the front. It has several leaves stuck to its arms--the Pokedex mentions that it uses its saliva to attach these leaves. The position of these leaves are unique to each group of Passimian. Passimian is 6 feet and 7 inches, or 2 meters, tall, and weighs 182.5lbs, or 82.8kg.

Behavior

Passimian live in groups of 20, using their saliva to stick leaves on their body in a pattern unique to their troupe. The strongest of the group search for berries to feed the rest. Often, the boss of the group is the one that can throw a berry the farthest. Passimian and driven by teamwork, often training together and performing their assigned roles. Their main method of attack involves throwing berries at opponents.

Strengths and Weaknesses

As its teamwork driven nature implies, Passimian functions best in double battles. Its signature ability, Receiver, copies the ability of an ally that faints. However, if you aren’t planning on using Passimian in a double-battle, its hidden ability Defiant will be much more useful. Passimian makes for a strong revenge-killer, switching in after an ally has fainted to knock out powerful foes. As a mono-fighting type, Passimian is weak to Flying, Psychic, and Fairy types, and it resists Rock, Bug, and Dark type moves.

Best Moveset

Passimian is great at cleaning up weak Pokemon and providing utility via pivots. After one of your Pokemon is knocked out, Passimian can use a Choice Scarf along with a high base power move like Close Combat and Gunk Shot to quickly dispatch foes. Alternatively, if the opposing Pokemon has low HP, you can opt to knock it out with U-Turn instead. While Choice Scarf makes Passimian very fast, it will still lose the speed race to other fast Pokemon with Choice Scarf. Keep the turn order in mind and bring in Passimian when the coast is clear.

How to Catch Passimian in Pokemon Go?

Unfortunately, Passimian has not been released in Pokemon Go. In fact, the only Pokemon from Generation seven to debut in Pokemon Go are Meltan and Melmetal. Passimian will most definitely come to Pokemon along with the other Alolan Pokemon. The developers also have to finish releasing generation six Pokemon, so it could take a while before we see Passimian in the game. Until then, we will not know if it hatches from eggs or if it will be available as a raid boss.

Trivia

  1. While Passimian does not evolve, it is the counterpart to Oranguru. Both Passimian and Oranguru share the base stat total of 490, and Passimian is exclusive to Pokemon Sun while Oranguru is exclusive to Pokemon Moon.
  2. Passimian’s debut episode in the Pokemon Anime, SM064 Touchdown of Friendship! Has not aired outside of Japan. This is the first episode to be “banned” since EP250 The Icy Cave! in 2002.
  3. The name Passimian seems to be a combination of the words pass and simian.
