Appearance
Pelipper is a white and blue, bird-like Pokemon that resembles a pelican in real life. While most of its body is blue, the tips of its wings, its two webbed feet, and the top of its head is light blue. It has a massive, yellow bill that can hold a small child in its throat pouch. The bill is so large that it makes up most of Pelipper’s body. Pelipper is an average sized Pokemon at 3 feet and 11 inches, or 1.2 meters, tall.
Behavior
Pelipper lives near the sea, where it can skim the tops of waves and scoop food from the sea. Its nests can be found on steep cliffs that are facing towards water. In the wild, Pelipper will prey naturally on Wishiwashi, eating over 30 different Pokemon in one gulp. It loves to find abandoned Luvdisc near the shore. Pelipper has a social relationship with other Pelipper and will pick a mate. The male Pelipper will collect food and bring it back to the nest and the female Pelipper will take care of the nest and eggs.
Strengths and Weaknesses
Pelipper is primarily a defensive Pokemon with respectable physical defense but it has an awful health pool with a slow speed. This makes it difficult for Pelipper to do much other than take damage. In generation seven, it received a buff to its special attack. The buff was marginal, but it did make Pelipper’s damage more significant. As a dual type water and flying type Pokemon, Pelipper takes 4x damage from electric type moves and 2x damage from rock type moves. It is immune to ground type moves and will resist fighting, bug, steel, fire, and water type moves.
Best Moveset
In competitive play, Pelipper is mainly considered for its ability Drizzle which activates rain once it enters the battlefield. This is used in conjunction with other Pokemon that enjoy the rain weather effect and Pelipper serves a defensive role on the team. While it also sets up rain automatically, it can also use a Damp Rock held item to ensure it lasts as long as possible. Consider running Scald, U-Turn, Roost, and Defog/Hurricane. Scald will make use of Pelipper’s special attack, U-Turn gives you an efficient swap, Roost ensures the longevity of your Pelipper, and Defog/Hurricane are interchangeable as a way to clear hazards or to remove stat changes on your opponent’s Pokemon.

How to Catch Pelipper in Pokemon Go?
If you would like to obtain a Pelipper in Pokemon Go, the easiest way to do so would be to first catch a Wingull and eventually evolve it into a Pelipper. This is since like most evolved Pokemon, its base evolution spawns more commonly as compared to its final evolution. You can find Wingull in the wild, at a boosted rate, near canals, rivers, oceans, lakes, harbors, and other watery areas. Wingull can also be hatched from 2 and 5 km eggs. It has also appeared as a tier one raid boss at Pokemon Gyms while Pelipper has appeared as a tier three raid boss. To evolve Wingull into a Pelipper, you will need 50 candies.
Trivia
- Both Pelipper and Ducklett are classified as the “Water Bird Pokemon”.
- The inspiration for Pelipper’s design is likely based on a pelican.
- The name Pelipper is a combination of the words pelican and skipper.
FAQ
What is Pelipper good for?
Pelipper is primarily a defensive Pokemon with some offensive capability. It will not live for too long with its low health pool but it can set up rain immediately with the Drizzle ability. It became able to use this ability in generation seven which made Pelipper much more viable in terms of competitive strategy.
Is Pelipper strong?
Pelipper on its own will not be able to accomplish much. While it can keep itself alive with moves like Roost, the damage it deals will come from quickly setting up rain. Its water type moves like Scald will deal more damage with the rain weather effect and has a slight chance to burn.
What does Pelipper evolve into?
Pelipper is the final evolution of its two stage evolution line. Pelipper evolves from Wingull at level 25. Once it reaches this evolution it does not evolve into another Pokemon. There are no special conditions to fulfill with this evolution line, and Wingull will evolve into Pelipper naturally once it reaches the level threshold.
Conclusion
Congratulations, you now know just about everything there is to know about this “Water Bird Pokemon”. A recent buff to Pelipper’s stats and its abilities allowed this Pokemon to make a significant impact on competitive play. In generation seven when Pelipper received more special attack and access to the ability Drizzle, it gave Pelipper a lot of usability. Thanks to this buff, Pelipper is now a more interesting Pokemon. Reserve a slot on your team for Pelipper to have a bulky, water and flying type Pokemon that can set up rain easily.
