Introduced in the sixth generation of Pokemon, Phantump is a Ghost/Grass Pokemon that has a fair share of battle potential but is best used for its evolution, Trevenant, as it is a far stronger Pokemon. Paranormal and mysterious, these Pokemon are definitely not for the unbrave at heart.

Appearance
Phantump are spirits that have a simple appearance as in their current form, they are small and mainly consist of a black body with small arms. The only variation from this is a Phantumps’ head as it resembles a tree stump that seems to have been placed on their heads. Not only that, it has two branches jutting out from the sides with holes for its eyes and mouth. Phantump has red eyes and what appears to be hair that pokes out from the top of the stump that it wears.
Behavior
Not too much is known about Phantump, but from what is collected, it is the result of a child who was lost in the forest and met their untimely end. Their spirit possesses a stump of a tree, and they continue to roam the Pokemon universe. A Phantumps’ cry sounds similar to a child, further cementing this theory. But these Pokemon have been known to lure people into the forest with their cries although, in truth, they only do this to seek out friends.
Strengths and Weaknesses
While Phantump may have a fairly solid Attack stat, the rest of its stats leaves much to be desired. Combine that with a low HP stat, and it should be nowhere close to your last line of defense. The strategy here is to let it evolve as it will become stronger and thus get better stats.
As a Ghost/Grass type Pokemon, Phantump is weak to Ghost, Flying, Fire, Ice and Dark type moves. However, it is resistant against Ground, Water, Grass and Electric moves, and immune to Normal and Fighting type moves.
Shiny Phantump
With it hard to locate in the wild, it makes finding a Shiny Phantump tricky as it is tough to track down. But once you do find one, the main difference between a normal and Shiny Phantump is very noticeable from the get go. That is as a Shiny Phantump has a white/silver stump and light blue eyes. To get a Shiny Phantump of your own, you’ll have to find one in the wild or hatch one from an egg although you could always find someone willing to trade one. Like all shiny Pokemon, Shiny Phantump gains a starry animation upon entering battle.
Best moveset for Phantump
Forest’s Curse | Shadow Claw |
Horn Leech | Poison Jab |
This moveset focuses on mixing up types and taking advantage of it. It all relies on Forest’s Curse, which will add a Grass typing to the enemy Pokemon. Once that happens, you can use Poison Jab to add additional critical damage as Grass is weak to Poison moves. Shadow Claw has a high critical rate while Horn Leech recovers half the health dealt by an enemy move.
