Hydreigon is arguably the most common Pseudo-Legendary in Pokemon GO, due to its base form being a common hatch from eggs received from Adventure Sync. As such, a lot of trainers may find themselves wondering if it has any use for competitive play, or if it can be used effectively in Raid Battles.
Being a member of the group of the strongest creatures in the game, many players would expect Hydreigon to be an absolute powerhouse, but using it correctly may require a bit of game knowledge. Here is everything to know about Hydreigon in Pokemon GO.
How to counter Hydreigon in Pokemon GO

Hydreigon is a Dark and Dragon-type Pokemon. This means it is weak to Ice, Bug, Fighting, and other Dragon-type attacks. In addition, since both the Dark and Dragon elements are weak to the Fairy typing, Hydreigon takes massive damage from Fairy-type moves, making them Hydreigon's biggest counter.
With this in mind, Hydreigon is countered by creatures with a type advantage like Primarina, Gardevoir, and Togekiss. In competitive play, Hydreigon is countered by bulky monsters that can outlast it, since Hydreigon is a glass cannon. Landorus Therian and fellow Pseudo-Legendary, Dragonite, are great counters for Hydreigon in this context.
Best movesets for Hydreigon in Pokemon GO
Given Hydreigon's high combat power limit and Dragon typing, it is viable in the Master League, with a small niche in Ultra League. Here are the best moveset players should use for competitive play:
- Dragon Breath - Fast Attack - Dragon-type
- Brutal Swing - Charged Attack - Dark-type
- Flash Cannon - Charged Attack - Steel-type
This moveset provides both great damage and decent coverage options, with Flash Cannon capable of dispatching Ice and Fairy-type creatures.
For PvE combat, which includes gym sieges and Raid Battles. Having access to potent Dark-type attacks, it is best used as a counter for Psychic and Ghost-type Raid Bosses. Here are the best moveset trainers can use for Hydreigon in this context:
- Bite - Fast Attack - Dark-type
- Brutal Swing - Charged Attack - Dark-type
- Dragon Pulse - Charged Attack - Dragon-type
Is Hydreigon any good in Pokemon GO?
While Hydreigon isn't the least effective creature players can use in Pokemon GO, there are much better Dragon-type Pseudo-Legendaries like Dragonite and Goodra that can do their job better. There are also better attackers for raids that would require Dark types, like Darkrai, Weavile, and Tyranitar.
Hydreigon also lacks a Mega Evolution, which significantly harms its viability in PvE. While not required, Hydreigon does nothing unique. Having a Mega Evolution would give players a reason to give it a chance over better choices. Nonetheless, Hydreigon is not terrible, but it is not the best choice players can make for a Dragon-type in serious play.
