Mega Rayquaza is coming back to Pokemon GO through Elite Raids only. With the mechanic not being held in high regard among the community, many players may be wondering if Mega Rayquaza is worth the stress of the grind. Being a Mega Evolution form of the Legendary, it cannot be used in PvP.

The strict limitations on where it can be used, combined with the Elite Raids' heavy time limits, may lead many players to opt out of trying to obtain Mega Rayquaza. Nevertheless, it remains a beloved creature in the eyes of the franchise's community. Here is everything you need to know about the Mega Rayquaza to help you decide if you want to take on the daunting grind.

Mega Rayquaza is a Dragon and Flying-type Pokemon. This means it is weak to Rock, Fairy, and Dragon-type attacks, with an incredibly potent weakness to Ice-type attacks. Hence, it is best challenged with creatures like Galarian Darmanitan, Mamoswine, Mega Abomasnow, Mega Glalie, and Weavile.

While it may have weaknesses to four different types, it is still the strongest creature in Pokemon GO in terms of stats. In the main series, Mega Rayquaza has a whopping base stat total of 780. Since stats in the mobile spin-off are made to emulate the main series, this detail from the latter carries over to the former as well.

According to PokeBattler, Mega Rayquaza is also the best raid attacker in the game at the moment. The only creature that stands a chance at dethroning it is Mega Mewtwo X and Y, which may not be released for years to come. Mega Rayquaza's best moveset consists of Dragon Tail and Dragon Ascent, the latter being its signature move.

Is Mega Rayquaza worth obtaining in Pokemon GO?

Mega Rayquaza is a great offensive choice for players who want to take on a lot of raids. Since this creature is a big selling point for the game at the moment, it is unlikely for Niantic to release a Raid Boss where Mega Rayquaza is downright unusable, so now is the best time to get this creature.

However, for the casual player base who may not have the time or resources to grind out raids like Pokemon GO's more hardcore player base, it might not seem worth the effort. Since Elite Raids only give out 90 Mega Energy in the best circumstances, getting the required 400 may take a lot of time and Raid Passes, which cost money.

While its Mega Evolution might not be the most interesting to every trainer, base Rayquaza is still a good creature to catch as it can be a valuable asset for Team GO Rocket battles, PvP, gym play, and raids.
