Pokemon GO always comes up with ways to improve various Legendary and Mythical creatures from the main series, giving them the dramatic flair they deserve. This was done most recently during the GO Tour: Sinnoh event, where Adventure Effects were introduced for Origin Dialga and Palkia. Niantic is continuing this trend by introducing new Adventure Effects for the signature moves of Dawn Wings and Dusk Mane Necrozma, Moongeist Beam and Sunsteel Strike, respectively.

Players can collect the Fusion Energy required for this purpose on Saturday, December 14, 2024, from 2 - 5 pm local time as part of the Pokemon GO Necrozma Fusion Raid Day.

Here is everything to know about Dawn Wings Necrozma, its new signature attack, and the Moongeist Beam Adventure Effect.

How to get Moongeist Beam in Pokemon GO

Moongeist Beam, despite being Lunala's signature attack in the main series, can only be used by Dawn Wings Necrozma in Pokemon GO. Players will need to fuse their Necrozma with a Lunala to obtain access to this move. This can be achieved by using 1,000 Lunar Fusion Energy and 30 Lunala and Necrozma candies.

Upon completing the fusion, trainers will have access to the Moongeist Beam Adventure Effect, as well as the move in the creature's moveset. This fusion can be undone at any time.

For three Necrozma candies and 3,000 Stardust, players can activate Dawn Wings Necrozma's Moongeist Beam Adventure Effect. Once activated, creatures that would typically spawn at night, as well as some special Pocket Monsters, will begin appearing near trainers.

In addition, the conditions throughout this duration will be set to night time, meaning certain critters will be able to evolve. This will help greatly with getting certain creatures like Umbreon or Ursaluna, which require the night to reach their final forms.

Is Moongeist Beam good in PvP and PvE for Pokemon GO?

Since Moongeist Beam will always be in the moveset of Dawn Wings Necrozma, many players worry about how it will impact its viability in Pokemon GO's competitive play since its moveset is not as customizable as other picks. Thankfully, Moongeist Beam is promising in both competitive play and Raid Battles.

For Raid Battles, Moongeist Beam has an astonishing base power of 230. It is also a Ghost-type attack, which means it benefits from the Same-Type Attack Bonus, making it even stronger when used by Dawn Wings Necrozma. This also makes it the strongest attack for Raid Battles, alongside its Steel-type counterpart, Sunsteel Strike for Dusk Mane Necrozma.

In terms of PvP, Moongeist Beam has a base damage of 135 and an energy cost of 65. This is the same cost as Draco Meteor. However, Draco Meteor has a base power of 150, with the downside of debuffing the user's attack stat.

For being 15 points weaker, Moongeist Beam is a powerful nuke on par with Draco Meteor, without the downside that balances out the latter's large base damage.
