You can do these things to make the most out of the event:

• Practice Excellent Throws. Each of these will give you 2,025 XP, which is much higher than the standard amount. Events like this are a good time to practice this in-game mechanic as they provide suitable rewards.
• Use a Lucky Egg. You can increase the bonus XP by 1.5x you receive using this item.
• Try to find a Jigglypuff with suitable PvP IVs. It is the only PvP pick worth hunting.
• Collect all the costume Pokemon. Even if you cannot find all the shinies, this is a great chance to collect shiny versions of Raticate and Wurmple.
