Pokemon GO has seen many quality-of-life updates throughout its history, as well as many events to serve a similar purpose, giving users access to rare and valuable creatures. However, the popular mobile game is still home to various issues and mechanics that hinder the player experience. One of these mechanics is a downside of Shadow Pokemon, the Frustration charged attack.

Initially, this move served as an incentive for trainers to purify their creatures, but as Shadow Pokemon have become a big part of Pokemon GO's competitive and raiding metagame, forcing every Shadow Pokemon to have Frustration as a charged attack greatly harms the beginner experience.

This has led to user Sarcaster on the Silph Road subreddit posting their idea about temporarily fixing this issue during the upcoming Community Day event.

In their post, the user states how they are annoyed with the Frustration move, which is a weak, Normal-type charged attack given to every Shadow Pokemon. This move can only be removed through purification, or from using a Charged TM on a Shadow Pokemon during Team Rocket Takeover events.

With 2024's final Community Day just around the corner, some players would appreciate Niantic bringing the ability to remove this attack to the upcoming event. Another requested change is that Shadow variants of spotlighted creatures receive their new event move when they reach their final form, rather than just keeping Frustration.

Users like 8BD0 have shared similar desires thanks to the fact that many Shadow Pokemon released by Niantic during the year's Team Rocket events also have their own Community Days. As such, many users who have these near-perfect Shadow Pokemon want to be able to remove the terrible Frustration attack so they can be used for competitive play.

Given the timing of many of these Shadow Pokemon releasing, many players feel that Niantic did this so players would spend more money on Elite TMs for their creatures

Many players feel like Niantic released these Community Day Pokemon as Shadows earlier in the year to incentivize users to spend money for Elite Charged TMs. These are items players use to teach these event-exclusive moves to most creatures in Pokemon GO. Allowing trainers to evolve their Shadow Pokemon and receive these moves for free would surely take some profit away from the developers.

Will Niantic fix "Frustration" in Pokemon GO?

The inclusion of Frustration on Shadow Pokemon in Pokemon GO was established as an overall negative feature in the mobile game, with the move essentially serving as a way to weaken Shadow Pokemon. The current system in the game for removing this move almost requires players to spend money for Elite TMs, or on battle passes to earn them from competitive play.

The current system also drives up engagement with the game around times of Team Rocket events, capitalizing on the playerbase's fear of missing out on the few chances they get in a year to optimize their strong Shadow Pokemon. With this in mind, Niantic will likely not rework this system until they stop making money from it.
