Shiny hunting is a common activity in Pokemon GO. The act of hunting shiny Pocket Monsters to fill out one's collection is a seemingly endless grind that can make for some very satisfying moments. Due to the mobile spin-off's higher rate of spawning creatures in their rare forms, fans of the main series use the game to hunt for easy shinies and send them to the console titles.

However, a player on the Pokemon GO subreddit has noticed one detail in another user's post that left them asking questions about a new symbol seen on wild Pocket Monsters. Thankfully, the answer to the origins of this mark can be explained by one of the game's newest features.

In the caption of their post, JarrettJenko first noted that the screenshot they posted is not theirs. They then stated that while they know the two leftmost symbols are the shiny and weather symbols, they do not know about the strange star symbol located to the right of the group.

This new icon is sure to catch some new players off-guard, but it is merely an indicator to let the trainer know that the encountered critter was spawned using the Adventure Effect of either Dusk Mane or Dawn Wings Necrozma.

User BingoBob_1 explained this in the thread, saying the icon is related to the Incense effect of Sunsteel Strike or Moogeist Beam.

In the instance seen in the shared screenshot, the Shiny Rockruff was spawned using Moongeist Beam. This was shown through the darkened star icon in the indicator rather than a light one.

This was also explaiend by user DarkHero6661, who echoed the information that the icon present in the image is related to the Moongeist Beam Adventure Effect.

This brings into question how players can obtain Sunsteel Strike and Moogeist Beam for themselves.

How to get Moongeist Beam and Sunsteel Strike Adventure Effects in Pokemon GO

Fusing Necrozma with Solgaleo or Lunala requires Fusion Energy in Pokemon GO (Image via Niantic)

To harness the power of Sunsteel Strike or Moongeist Beam, players will need to fuse a Necrozma with either a Solgaleo or Lunala. To do this, they will need to use Fusion Energy. This can be difficult to obtain at this time since Dusk Mane nor Dawn Wings Necrozma is available as a Raid Boss.

If trainers can somehow manage to get it, Necrozma can be fused via its summary screen accessible in the collection menu.

Fusing Necrozma with Solgaleo will grant it Sunsteel Strike, allowing players an Incense-like effect, attracting creatures that spawn during the day.

The opposite effect will be in place if trainers fuse their Necrozma with Lunala. Upon making Dawn Wings Necrozma, players will have access to Moongeist Beam, granting an Incense-like effect that attracts Pocket Monsters that spawn during the night time.
