How to find Giovanni and Shadow Regigigas during Team GO Rocket Halloween Takeover in Pokemon GO?

Giovanni and Shadow Regigigas can be found in Pokemon GO by taking part in a Special Research called Showdown in the Shadows. It is a five-stage research story, of which the third stage gives you a Super Rocket Radar as a reward.

The first two stages involve catching and transferring Pocket Monsters, spinning PokeStops, and defeating GO Rocket Grunts. You receive XP and Stardust for completing each level.

The third stage is where things get slightly more difficult as you have to defeat Arlo, Cliff, and Sierra once each to earn the Super Rocket Radar.

On activating this special item, you can find Giovanni. The following section will deal with his current team and the best counters.

How to defeat Giovanni and catch Shadow Regigigas in Pokemon GO?

Giovanni's team currently consists of the following critters:

  • Phase 1: Persian
  • Phase 2: Nidoking / Kingler / Garchomp
  • Phase 3: Regigigas

The best counters to it are as follows:

Phase 1

  • Mega Blaziken with Counter and Focus Blast
  • Terrakion with Double Kick and Sacred Sword
  • Machamp with Counter and Dynamic Punch
  • Lucario with Counter and Aura Sphere

Phase 2

  • Mega Sceptile with Bullet Seed and Fenzy Plant
  • Kartana with Razor Leaf and Leaf Blade
  • Tangrowth with Vine Whip and Power Whip
  • Venusaur with Vine Whip and Frenzy Plant
  • Mamoswine with Powder Snow and Avalanche
  • Weavile with Ice Shard and Avalanche
  • Baxcalibur with Ice Fang and Avalanche
  • Mega Glailie with Frost Breath and Avalanche

Phase 3

  • Mega Blaziken with Counter and Focus Blast
  • Terrakion with Double Kick and Sacred Sword
  • Machamp with Counter and Dynamic Punch
  • Lucario with Counter and Aura Sphere

Giovanni is relatively easier to defeat than the other GO Rocket leaders since his first and last picks are always constant. Incidentally, they are also weak to Fighting-types.

Therefore, a team made up of two strong Fighitng-type critters and an Ice or Grass-type (depending on what his second choice is) should see you through this matchup with ease.

Once you defeat Giovanni in this battle, you will get a chance to catch Shadow Regigigas in Pokemon GO.

Alongside Shadow Regigigas, Shadow Lugia will also be available in 5-star Shadow Raids during this period.
