Having completed their Tag Battles against Paldea's Elite Four, the Pokemon Horizons heroes and the Rising Volt Tacklers celebrate at a restaurant. The Rising Volt Tacklers praise our heroes for their efforts against the Elite Four while Orla tells Liko that the Brave Olivine should be back in working order soon. Meanwhile, Ludlow discovers a strange golden coin near the ship, but it disappears.
Liko, Roy, and Friede then head to Naranja Academy and meet with Director Clavell and Geeta. The latter asks what Friede wants to know about Terapagos, and the rare Pokemon pops its head out of Liko's handbag, to the surprise of Clavel and Geeta. Liko shares how Terapagos emerged from her grandmother's pendant, and Friede asks about old documentation for Terapagos in Paldea.
Geeta then shows the Pokemon Horizons heroes a screen of an old sketch of Terapagos in its ordinary as well as another form it used during battle, which our heroes saw during the battle against Lucius' Rayquaza. The group learns that Terapagos is deeply intertwined with Paldea's Area Zero and the Terastal Phenomenon that takes place across the region.
Geeta remarks that Terapagos' sighting in Area Zero was recorded in the Scarlet Book, which Dot had read through and checked out from the library in Pokemon Horizons Episode 56. Geeta opens the book to the strange drawing of a crystalline orb-like tortoise Pokemon, remarking that it is believed that Terapagos can achieve a third form. Liko then shares the story of her desire to return Terapagos to Laqua.
Roy offers that our Pokemon Horizons heroes head to Area Zero, but Clavell interjects that a recent accident at the site will make entering it difficult. However, Geeta offers to take the kids to the mysterious area when it's safe. Clavell and Geeta offer to introduce the gang to someone who might know more about Paldea's history. The kids then head to the library and return the Scarlet Book.
Liko remarks that she realized she doesn't know much about Terapagos as Raifort, the academy's history teacher, arrives and meets the kids and Friede. Raifort initially appears to have a second Terapagos, but it is revealed to be her Zoroark in disguise. Zoroark then turns into a copy of Captain Pikachu, which somewhat bothers the original that doesn't appreciate Zoroark's trickery.
Raifort offers the kids and Friede to join her on some fieldwork, as she states she's hunting for "ancient treasure." The group accepts and heads out into the wilds of Paldea. Roy notices a disturbance in the nearby grass and finds a Gimmighoul with one of its coins on its back. Roy tries to catch it, but it escapes and leaves its coin, and Friede states that trainers haven't been able to successfully capture it.
Roy initially thinks he's found the Gimmighoul again, but it turns out to be Zoroark, who gives the Gimmighoul Coin to Raifort. The Pokemon Horizons heroes hope to continue to search for additional coins in the area, and Terapagos finds a set of old ruins and leads the group to it. At the ruins, Terapagos finds a hidden Charcadet, which immediately mounts it and rides it around the ruins to its delight.
The group also finds a friendly Nacli, which Friede says were known to assist humans in ancient rituals. Raifort states that both Nacli and Charcadet have assisted humans for generations in Paldea, explaining their friendliness. Roy and Fuecoco then return to the ruins and share that they've found a huge hoard of Gimmighoul Coins to the group's astonishment.
Raifort points ahead to a nearby watchtower where she believes the Gimmighoul may reside. Roy flies to the tower with Kilowattrel as the rest of the Pokemon Horizons gang catches up with Friede's Charizard while Raifort and Zoroark charge to it on foot. The group finds a strange chest and opens it to find that it's a Chest Forme Gimmighoul, complete with a hoard of coins that it has collected.
Roy immediately gives the coins he has over to Gimmighoul, and Friede reveals that one of Gimmighoul's powers is to control humans and make them collect coins so it can steal them. The Gimmighoul returns to its chest and jumps off the watchtower and runs away while Roy bids it farewell. Raifort then finishes her thought about what a niche book stated about Laqua, remarking:
"Once upon a time, far beyond Paldea, a hundred days and nights away, there was a Pokemon paradise. The shining pink of Laqua. People dismissed it as a fairy tale, and nowadays, there's nobody left who knows the name "Laqua." - Raifort, Pokemon Horizons Episode 57
Raifort chooses to believe our Pokemon Horizons heroes about the connection between Terapagos and Laqua. She explains the history of the Paldean Empire and the kingdoms that came before. Terapagos looks out onto the ruins below and presents a flashback of it and Lucius a hundred years ago, overlooking a sprawling collection of settlements in days long gone.
Friede thanks Raifort for her help, and she states that she simply wanted to show the kids the future and that it's fun to look to the past. Later, back at the training ground of Naranja Academy, Director Clavell makes an announcement to the students. Dendra then follows up and states that the students must take on another set of tests where they must Double Battle Paldea's gym leaders.
The restriction on using Terastallization for students is lifted, and our heroes receive their assignments. Roy must face Ryme, Dot must battle Larry, and Liko must battle Grusha, who she shortly encountered in Episode 56. The kids cheer together and decide to head toward the town of Medali for Dot's battle, bringing an end to Pokemon Horizons Episode 57.
