Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's "color glitch" makes for a colorful Gen IV 'mon

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet is host to its fair share of bugs and glitches. While the game has progressively gotten better with each update, it is still prone to the occasional visual bug or performance issue. While the performance issues can be annoying for many players, the occasional visual bug can make for a good chuckle during long grinding sessions.

Some of these bugs are tied to certain unfinished mechanics in the game that were later scrapped in development. This is the case for one particular user who shared their experience on the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet subreddit.

Using the Pokemon Picnic feature in the generation nine titles, players can interact with their party members on a more personal level. Here, players can make sandwiches, play fetch, and even wash and breed their Pokemon. For a reason many do not know, there are some occasions when a creature can randomly change colors.

This is what occurred for u/Lyumi3 on the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet subreddit. Their Luxray seems to have been affected by a visual bug, jumbling the colors on its model. It also appears that this glitch only impacts Luxray in the game because other users have reported a similar experience as well.

While the glitch is unintentional, this has not stopped many players from expressing their interest in how the glitch makes Luxray look. Nevertheless, this glitch is caused by an issue with the game's code. The community has come up with a theory that this feature is tied to an unused visual feature within the Pokemon Picnic mode.

Allegedly, this issue appears to be tied to an unused visual feature where Pokemon would appear dirty at the picnic, signifying that the trainer can clean them. This feature was scrapped, mostly due to players not wanting to feel pressured to use an optional feature. However, some of its data was left behind, which somehow led to this issue affecting the Luxray and the Litleo line.

Will Pokemon Scarlet and Violet receive bug patches?

The Pokemon Company has a lot of projects on the horizon. With Pokemon Legends: Z-A releasing in 2025 and the tenth generation most likely in development alongside it, Game Freak has most likely turned their focus away from Scarlet and Violet outside of the occasional Tera Raid event now and then.

Since there are no apparent game-breaking glitches with the game that can impact the casual experience, Game Freak will most likely never feel the need to take the resources away from future projects to fix a minor glitch.

While it might be unfortunate for many players who would like a bug-free experience from their modern game, Scarlet and Violet is most likely in its final version and will never receive another software update again.
