In a Pokemon TCG Pocket match, many creatures are in a deck for the sole purpose of evolving into more powerful variants. As such, this tier is mostly comprised of unevolved Pocket Monsters and those that are outclassed by their respective ex variants. However, some ex cards have less than desirable moves, harming their viability.

Given the limited deck size of 20 cards for matches in Pokemon TCG Pocket, the cards need to have ways of dealing damage, leading to teams only having one or two damage carries per deck. With better options being available in nearly every element, the meta (S-tier options) has been established since the New Zealand open test.

C tier

Cards in the C tier are often cost-efficient damage dealers and have some decent bulk to help them stay in battle for a long time. However, they still require some support or set-up time and often have better alternatives.

Here is every card in the C tier:

  • Jinx
  • Kangaskhan
  • Electrode
  • Farfetch'd
  • Exeggutor ex
  • Blastoise ex
  • Marowak ex

Many B-tier cards are oppressive at various stages in the game, dealing respectable damage and featuring secondary effects that can be beneficial or harmful. Some supporter cards also make an appearance in this category.

Here is every card in the B tier:

  • Arbok
  • Kabutops
  • Zapdos ex
  • Venusaur ex
  • Charizard ex
  • Moltres ex
  • Brock
  • Koga
  • Lt. Surge
  • Erika
  • Blaine

The cards in Pokemon TCG Pocket's A tier require some kind of set-up, such as a three-stage evolution or a specific deck build, to be effective. The supporting cards in this category are incredibly versatile and can be used in almost any deck.

Here is every card in the A tier:

  • Pidgeot
  • Dragonite
  • Pikachu ex
  • Red Card
  • Potion
  • Giovanni
  • X Speed
  • Misty

S tier

Pokemon TCG Pocket's S-tier cards boast great versatility, often not needing evolution to be effective. While Starmie ex requires evolution, it compensates with a free retreat cost.

Supporters in this category offer helpful bonuses with no downsides, making them essential for optimal performance in the current meta.

Here is every card in the S tier:

  • Mewtwo ex
  • Articuno ex
  • Starmie ex
  • Poke Ball
  • Sabrina
  • Professor's Research

Articuno ex stands out as the best card in the game at the moment.
