The Pokemon TCG Pocket app has become increasingly popular among Pokemon fans, providing a digital space for trading card battles on the go. However, one glaring absence in its design has been the lack of a dark mode. The current all-white theme, while visually clean, is challenging for many users during night-time play.
A dedicated dark mode has been a highly requested feature since the app’s release, and one passionate designer from the community has now taken matters into their own hands.
Reddit user Fumoffuru recently shared their own concept of a dark mode for Pokemon TCG Pocket. Their post read:
“I’m a designer and wanted to save everyone from blindness with…dark mode!”

In this post, Fumoffuru showcased a series of mockups for the app’s interface in dark colors, garnering significant attention and support from the community. The post resonated with a large audience of players who have long awaited a dark mode to alleviate eye strain and improve nighttime usability.
Many Pokemon TCG Pocket players chimed in to express their enthusiasm for Fumoffuru’s concept.
One user, flippenflounder, shared that they primarily play at night and find it difficult to play in the dark even with their screen brightness lowered. A dark mode would prevent the screen from feeling like a spotlight in dimly lit environments.
Others, like fightmydemonswithme, pointed out that while dark mode isn’t universally necessary due to individual vision needs, offering it as an option would bring widespread benefits without impacting those who prefer a bright screen.
For some players, dark mode offers more than just relief from brightness — it’s a way to navigate colorblindness. User Diamond-Days, who has tritanomaly, commented that a dark background could help them better differentiate these colors, which would otherwise blend together on a white background.
Others expressed surprise at any opposition to the feature. Axlndo commented that making dark mode an optional toggle shouldn’t pose an issue and appreciated the design work done by Fumoffuru.
Meanwhile, RadioactiveFish humorously noted their frustration with the lack of dark mode in other Pokemon apps like Pokemon GO and Pokemon Home.

Other requested features for Pokemon TCG Pocket
While dark mode remains a top request, players have suggested additional improvements that could elevate the Pokemon TCG Pocket experience even further.
Currently, duplicates in the game can be traded only for cosmetic enhancements, like adding a sparkle effect to the cards. While this gives a unique look, it doesn’t incentivize players to keep opening packs since these duplicates have limited value.
Players have proposed the ability to exchange duplicates for in-game currency or even booster packs, which would provide meaningful rewards and make collecting more fulfilling.
Deck-building can be challenging, especially for newcomers unfamiliar with card synergies. A “Deck Suggestions” feature would allow players to view decks used by others with similar cards, including win rates and helpful tips.
This would make it easier for beginners to learn effective strategies and inspire creativity in deck-building while fostering a stronger community as players share insights and expertise.
