During Pokemon GO Fest 2024 Madrid from June 15 to 18, 2024, a global event will take place known as Spelunker's Cove, which focuses heavily on the Water and Rock-type Pokemon that trainers will see in person at GO Fest Madrid. Additionally, several rare shiny Pokemon will be made available to capture, which might entice shiny hunters who normally wouldn't be as interested in the event.
While there are a few shinies to catch during Pokemon GO's Spelunker's Cove event, some are a bit more difficult to come by than others. For trainers hoping to snag a few rare shinies for their collection, the Pokemon on this list might be worth keeping an eye out for.
Five rare shinies to catch in Pokemon GO Spelunker's Cove
1) Incarnate Landorus

In addition to being available as a rank 20 PvP reward from June 10 to 19 in Pokemon GO, trainers can also raid Incarnate Forme Landorus during Spelunker's Cove as a Tier-5 raid boss. If trainers can defeat it a few times in these raids, there should be an approximate 5% base chance to find shiny Incarnate Landorus after the raid.
Niantic may further boost the 5% base chance during Spelunker's Cove, but it's unclear whether this will be the case. Regardless, lucky trainers willing to burn a few raid passes could catch this powerful Pokemon in its shiny variant.
2) Crabrawler
For the first time in Pokemon GO, trainers can catch shiny Crabrawler during Spelunker's Cove. The Pokemon was already hard to find, and its shiny could be even rarer. Thus, Spelunker's Cove is the first opportunity to catch shiny Crabrawler outside of GO Fest Madrid, ensuring that trainers don't have to worry about catching its shiny later on.
Trainers will be able to encounter shiny Crabrawler in the wild, as a Field Research reward and for beating Crabrawler in Tier-1 raids during Spelunker's Cove. Its shiny appearance rate is unclear since this will be shiny Crabrawler's global debut. However, trainers who encounter Crabrawler often during the event should have a solid shot at finding it.
3) Wimpod
Although Wimpod can be obtained in the wild or as a Field Research task reward outside of Spelunker's Cove at the moment, finding a shiny one takes some time with either method, particularly because shiny Wimpod's base appearance rate is approximately 1/512. Fortunately, Spelunker's Cove is giving trainers the chance to defeat Wimpod in Tier-1 raids to encounter its shiny.
Shiny Wimpod was recently easier to find during the Sizable Surprises event in April 2024, but for those who missed out on that event, Spelunker's Cove is an alternative option to find it.
4) Binacle
Like Wimpod, Binacle is not the rarest creature in Pokemon GO, but compared to some other Pokemon that can be found during Spelunker's Cove, it's tougher to find its shiny. The good news is that trainers who diligently complete their Field Research tasks can find a shiny Binacle as they go about their business during this event.
It might take some time, considering that many other shinies like those for Geodude, Crabrawler, and Nosepass are also available as Field Research rewards, but hard work might just pay off for trainers during Spelunker's Cove.
5) Alakazam
Although shiny Alakazam is far from being the rarest creature, finding one without evolving a shiny Abra and Kadabra first is quite unlikely. Trainers who don't want to spend time collecting Abra candy or finding a trade partner for the evolutionary process can skip right to shiny Kadabra by battling Mega Kadabra in Mega Raids during Spelunker's Cove.
As a Mega Raid boss, Alakazam should have an approximate shiny appearance chance of 1/128 if it isn't boosted by the event. However, beating Mega Alakazam repeatedly will require a few trainers to help out and teams of powerful Pokemon to counter it, ideally Bug, Ghost, and Dark-types.
