10 rarest Pokemon encounters of all time in Pokemon games, ranked

There are multiple Pokemon games where encountering some creatures is incredibly challenging. As a result, they are called the rarest Pokemon finds. The Pokemon franchise has released numerous titles with unique storylines and Generations of Pocket Monsters. Each new Gen introduces new entities, and while some become easy to find, others become hard to encounter.

Pokemon games have a distinct way of entertaining their fans, where they make players complete various quests or objectives to obtain the rarest Pokemon. Here are some of the rarest Pokemon across all games in the series, and how players can encounter them.

Feebas, Manaphy, and eight other rarest Pokemon encounters in Pokemon games

10) Dunsparce

Dunsparce is a weak entity in Pokemon games. It is so useless that even if one teams it up with potent fighters, it will only offer hindrance. As a Normal-type Pokemon with unimpressive battle capabilities, it performs slightly better when evolved into Dudunsparce. Note that the latter has two different forms: three-segment Form and two-segment Form.

Dunsparce is one of the rarest Pokemon because players had slim chances of encountering it in the wild during its introduction in Gold & Silver. In fact, there was only a 1% chance of finding it in the Dark Cave. Moreover, one had to use a Pokemon that knows the HM move Flash to brighten the place. This resulted in ditching a team member to make that happen.

9) Chimecho

In the recent Pokemon games, Chimecho can be encountered more frequently in the wild. However, things are different in the Ruby and Saphhire and Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire titles. In the former, one must travel to Mt. Pyre, where Chimecho appears. However, there is only a 2% chance of seeing the monster. In the latter, the percentage is raised to 5%. Although the change is not significant, this makes the creature less rare than Dunsparce.

Chimecho, also known as the Wind Chime Pokemon, is a Psychic-type creature. It evolves from Chingling and can use Levitate as its ability, which allows it to be immune to Ground-type attacks. This is essential if one wants to neutralize the efficacy of the said moves. Pokemon games are loved for many reasons but are criticized by many for their time-consuming challenges of obtaining 'mons.

8) Pumpkaboo XL

Players can get four forms of Pumpkaboo in Pokemon games: Small, Medium, Large, and Extra-large. When it comes to Sword and Shield, even though one can capture all of the variations of the monster, getting the XL form takes a lot of work. Only some lucky trainers can get their hands on it.

Pumpkaboo variants other than extra-large have low battle power. They also have a low Base Stat Total (BST) and can’t perform as effectively as the XLs. With only a 1% chance of spawning, one has to invest their precious time finding them in the wild. The locations where Pumpaboo can be seen are Route 4, Giant’s Mirror, and Hammerlocke Hills.

7) Munchlax

One of the rarest encounters for trainers is Munchlax, Snorlax's pre-evolved form. Pokemon games Diamond and Pearl were the first to introduce the monster. Even though Baby Pokemon are adorable, they are useless additions with no significant value unless they reach the final evolution. So, many had high hopes for finding Munchlax in those video games.

Unfortunately, encountering Munchlax in Pokemon Diamond and Pearl is tough. One needs to attract the wild monster to one of the four trees by slathering honey on them. However, the catch is that the game randomly chooses only four of the 21 trees that can spawn Munchlax. Also, the chance of encountering is just 1%. If trainers don’t get it in one go, they need to start a new save file.

6) Kangaskhan

In Pokemon GO, Kangaskhan is a regional variant only found in Australia. Therefore, players have to wait for special events to catch it. The monster is one of the rarest encounters in the mobile and mainline titles. Pokemon games Sun and Moon make finding Kangaskhan in the wild a hectic job.

Since the monster only spawns at the Wela Volcano in the Sun and Moon, one must be in that location. Moreover, a player has a 1% chance of seeing the creature spawn in the wild. Kangaskhan becomes a very powerful Pokemon through Mega evolution. Thus, one should always learn how to evolve Kangaskhan into Mega Kangaskhan.

5) Antique Sinistea

Antique Sinistea is a Gen VIII Pokemon that looks exactly like a teapot. It has another variant called Phony Sinistea, a fake version of the original Pokemon. Although both have similar stats and power, trainers prefer to collect the Authentic form over the copied one. In Pokemon games Sword and Shield, players must first learn to identify the real Sinistea.

Since trainers encounter fake Sinistea more often than real ones in Sword and Shield, the latter becomes super rare. It is said that they likely find the Phony counterpart most of the time. As a result, there is only a 1% chance of meeting the Antique teapot-lookalike.

4) Chansey

Chansey is among the rarest Pokemon encounters of all time in Pokemon games. While catching it in other titles may be easier, capturing it in Gold and Silver (G/S) is hard. The Red and Blue games introduced the monster in 1996, but it became hard to find in G/S. Meanwhile, Pokemon GO features Chansey on Community Day every year, offering collectors to catch it.

Players intending to find Chansey in Gold and Silver must know the chance to encounter it is just 1%, and they must visit Routes 13, 14, or 15, the only places where the monster can spawn. Most importantly, there must be a Pokemon in your team that knows the Normal-type move Cut to enter the areas.

3) Sharpedo

Shapedo is a shark-like Pokemon popularized by the Pokemon games Ruby and LeafGreen. Its body resembles a monstrous shark, but its head is severed from its body. This gives the monster a ferocious appearance. Sharpedo is a Water and Dark-type Pokemon, and its abilities are Rough Skin and Speed Boost. One has to keep an eye out for its weaknesses, although it is immune to Psychic-type moves.

GameFreak introduced a new concept called Poke Rides, which helps trainers traverse the overworld and simultaneously carry out certain activities, like breaking rocks to make a path. One can get Sharpedo as a Poke Ride in Pokemon Sun and Moon, but it is difficult to find in the wild. Traveling to the Poni Breaker Coast is the best way to encounter it. However, there is just a 1% chance of being successful.

2) Manaphy

In the Pokemon game Legends: Arceus, trainers must undergo several processes to catch rare Pokemon, and to catch Manaphy, one must complete a riddle. This will provide access to Seaside Hollow, where trainers can confront the monster. However, catching it is challenging even after seeing it because players must also fight three Phiones that assist it. As a result, proper preparation is essential to add Manaphy to the Pokedex.

Manaphy and Phiones are two look-alike Pokemon, but they are not connected. They are Mythical Pokemon with Water as their typing. Players who encounter them in the Seaside Hollow need a strong team against their Water-type moves.

1) Feebas

Encountering Feebas and evolving them into Milotic is not easy in many Pokemon games. Ruby and Sapphire of Gen 3, which introduced the monster, tests the patience of players who look for Feebas.

Trainers can find Feebas on Route 119, where there are 446 different water tiles, and only six of them can spawn it. But, what pains one the most is that its encounter is entirely random.

In Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald, there are 528 water tiles; however, only four spawn Feebas. This results in players spending all of their time checking out which tiles have the monster. So, it is one of the rarest encounters of all time in Pokemon games.
