Introduced in generation two, with the Pokemon Gold and Silver games, Remoraid is a monotype water Pokemon. It is the first stage evolution of its two stage evolution line and evolves into Octillery once it reaches the level threshold. While there are no other evolutions in Remoraid’s line, it is involved in Mantyke’s evolution as well. Remoraid is classified by the Pokedex as the “Jet Pokemon” which is likely a reference to its general behavior. This guide will showcase Remoraid’s capabilities in battle, its appearances in the anime, as well as other general facts about Remoraid.

About Remoraid

As a generation two Pokemon, Remoraid first appeared in the Original Series of the anime in the episode The Light Fanatic. In this episode, multiple Remoraid were featured living on Remoraid Mountain. Remoraid will evolve into Octillery once it reaches level 25. There are no further evolutions in the Pokemon’s evolution line and it ends with Octillery. However, if a Remoraid is in your party when a Mantyke levels up, the Mantyke will begin to evolve. The Pokedex states that Remoraid can use its stomach to shoot water from its mouth to target flying prey.

Appearance

Remoraid is a teal Pokemon that bears a resemblance to archerfish. Both Remoraid and archerfish are capable of shooting water projectiles to hit prey out of the water. Remoraid has two fins on either side of its body and one below its body. There is also a split tail fin at Remoraid’s base and it has a small horn growing on the top of its head. It has small black eyes with white pupils and can be found commonly in seas. Remoraid is a small Pokemon at only 2 feet, or 0.6 meters, tall.

Behavior

In the Pokemon universe, Remoraid is well known for being able to shoot water at those outside of the water. Its aim is precise and it can still hit its target from a great distance as the Pokedex mentions that it can shoot water over 300 feet. Due to its great accuracy, Remoraid have earned the nickname the “Sniper of the Seas”. They are known to get along with Mantine and will gather in groups around Mantine for safety. Remoraid will feed on whatever Mantine leaves behind, but will also help keep predators at bay.

Strengths and Weaknesses

As the base evolution of its evolution line, Remoraid is still a weak Pokemon. It does have a decent offensive lineup of high physical and special attacks, but it has low resilience. Remoraid has an okay speed stat to match its offensive statline, but Remoraid cannot last long in a battle. You will need to protect your Remoraid if you want it to succeed in battle. As a monotype water Pokemon, Remoraid takes 2x damage from grass and electric type moves. It has no immunities but is resistant to steel, fire, water, and ice type moves.

Best Moveset

In competitive play, Remoraid can be utilized as an offensive Pokemon especially if it is built correctly. With a Choice Scarf, as a held item, Remoraid can often beat its opponent’s speed to move first. It can also come with the Hustle ability which makes all of its attacks hit for significant damage. Consider running Water Spout, Hydro Pump, Fire Blast, and Bullet Seed. This set is aimed at giving Remoraid as many options as possible with its Choice Scarf. It has four different offensive moves that can be used to match your opponent’s Pokemon type. Simply select the option that will deal super effective damage to see success in battle.

It can also be hatched from 5 km eggs but while Remoraid has not been featured as a raid boss, Octillery has been featured as a tier three raid boss at Pokemon Gyms. To evolve Remoraid into an Octillery you will need 50 candies.
