Last Modified Dec 23, 2021 08:55 GMT

Introduced in generation two, with the Pokemon Gold and Silver games, Sentret is a monotype normal Pokemon. It is the first stage evolution of its two stage evolution line and evolves into Furret once it reaches the level threshold but Furret does not evolve further. Sentret is classified by the Pokedex as the “Scout Pokemon” which is likely a reference to its general behavior. This guide will showcase Sentret’s capabilities in battle, its appearances in the anime, as well as other general facts about Sentret.

About Sentret

As a generation two Pokemon, Sentret first appeared in the Original Series of the anime in the episode Tanks a Lot!. In this episode, a Sentret and Misty’s Togepi help to ruin Team Rocket’s Arbo-Tank. The Pokedex states that Sentret is a social Pokemon and they will work together in shifts to keep an eye out for predators.

Appearance

Sentret is a small brown and white Pokemon that resembles a meerkat or ferret. Most of its body is brown, but it has a white circle on its stomach with black ears that are red on the inside. Its large tail is robust enough for Sentret to stand on, and the tail has brown and black stripes. While it does have two feet and two arms, Sentret appears to prefer standing on its tail instead. Sentret is a small Pokemon at only 2 feet and 7 inches, or 0.8 meters, tall.

Behavior

Sentret are timid Pokemon that will gather together in groups to keep themselves safe from predators. They are social animals that will take turns standing on guard to keep the rest of its community safe. It is important for Sentret to be able to stand on guard otherwise the entire group could be in danger. If a Sentret is too afraid to keep watch, it will be separated from the pack. The Pokedex mentions that if a Sentret is kept away from a group for too long, it will become sleepless from fear.

Strengths and Weaknesses

Sentret has yet to reach its final evolution, so it is not particularly powerful as even its final evolution lacks real potential in battle. None of Sentret’s stats make it powerful in battle and all of its stats are below average. Its uses are more important in casual environments where it can make use of its Run Away ability. As a monotype normal Pokemon, Sentret takes 2x damage from fighting type moves. It is immune to ghost type moves but it does not resist any other type in the franchise.

Best Moveset

In competitive play, Sentret is typically reserved for the LC (Little Cup) format and in this bracket, Sentret can function as an offensive Pokemon utilizing Choice Specs to increase its potential damage. With the Frisk ability, you can get an idea of what your opponent’s strategy is by checking your opponent's Pokemon’s held item. Consider running Hyper Voice, Flamethrower, Shadow Ball/Surf, and Trick. This moveset is aimed at being as aggressive as possible while having as many offensive type moves as possible. Trick can be used in conjunction with Choice Specs to interfere with your opponent’s strategy.

How to Catch Sentret in Pokemon Go?

If you would like to obtain a Sentret in Pokemon Go, there are a few different ways of doing so. As the base evolution Pokemon, it is much more common to encounter than its final evolution counterpart. Sentret will spawn in the wild at a boosted rate near fields, roads, schools, businesses, and other residential areas. While it does not seem as if Sentret can hatch from any eggs, it has appeared as a tier one raid boss at Pokemon Gyms. Furret has yet to appear as a raid boss but to evolve Sentret into a Furret you will need 25 candies.

Trivia

  1. Sentret is the only Pokemon in the franchise to have a base stat total of 215.
  2. The inspiration for Sentret’s design is likely based on meerkats and ferrets.
  3. The name Sentret is a combination of the words sentry and ferret.

FAQ

What animal is a Sentret?

Sentret is likely meant to resemble a ferret or meerkat. Especially considering its final evolution’s name as Ferret, the connection between the Pokemon and the real life animal is easy to make. Sentret’s behavior keeps it closer to a Meerkat than anything else. Its colors are also similar to a sugar glider.

What does Furret evolve into?

Furret is the final evolution of its evolution line, it does not evolve further. Furret will evolve from Sentret once it reaches level 15. There are no other conditions to fulfill for this Pokemon’s evolutions. After Sentret evolves into Ferret, you can move on to collecting other Pokemon.

Is Sentret a good Pokemon?

There are not many competitive benefits to having Sentret in battle. Its base statline is weak and its potential in battle does not get much better. Sentret can offer much more value in casual playthroughs where it can utilize its ability Run Away to help you stay away from battles you do not want to go through.

Conclusion

Congratulations, you now know just about everything there is to know about this “Scout Pokemon”. While Sentret’s impact on competitive play is limited to a unique format, it is by no means a weak Pokemon. Sentret can make it difficult for your opponent’s Pokemon to get set up. If it gets enough time to set up, Sentret can win the battle as it can be a powerful Pokemon in battle. Reserve a slot on your team for Sentret if you want a disruptive normal type Pokemon.
