First appearing in the fourth generation of Pokemon, Shellos, and its two variations, made its debut in the Sinnoh region. Though similar in looks, there are two versions of this Pokemon, and the collector in many fans must have both. It’s a simple enough process, much like Shellos itself.

Appearance
One look and it's obvious that both versions of Shellos are based on sea slugs found in the ocean, albeit with a few alterations. Shellos are pretty uniform in body with no limbs but just a body and head, with either fins or spikes depending on the version. The West Sea Shellos has a white and pink coloured body, while the East Sea version of Shellos is blue and light green. Both variations have the same black and white eyes with yellow borders all across its body.
Behavior
Due to the mountain Shellos resided on being split a long time ago, the original Shellos species found themselves divided. With this separation, Shellos over time became two variations: West Sea Shellos and East Sea Shellos. Although there is no proven reason for their changes, most scientists believe that each Shellos variant adapted to either the colder or warmer oceans they found themselves in. No matter which version you encounter however, giving this Pokemon a light squeeze will make Shellos secrete a sticky purple fluid. It is important to note that this substance, although mysterious, is not poisonous or toxic.
Strengths and Weaknesses
To be frank, there’s not much going in Shellos’ favor that will make this Pokemon effective in battle. Even though its highest stat is in health, the number is still low compared to others which doesn’t help when combined with its Special Defense. Top that off with an abysmal Speed stat and there’s no reason to bring Shellos to a fight.
Furthermore, as a monotype Water Pokemon, Shellos is resistant to Steel, Fire, Water and Ice type moves, has no immunities and is weak to Grass and Electric type moves..
Shiny Shellos
Finding a Shiny Shellos is tricky due to the odds as the numbers are not in your favor. But the main difference between a normal and Shiny Shellos is extremely subtle, as Shiny Shellos’s coloration is seemingly unchanged at first glance. The only difference in Shiny Shellos is that their color palette is slightly lighter. It might take a few glances, but when compared to their normal variants, the difference is ever so subtle, just enough to satisfy collectors.
To get a Shiny Shellos of your own, you’ll have to find one in the wild, hatch one from eggs, or you could always find someone willing to trade one. Like all shiny Pokemon, Shiny Shellos gains a starry animation when it enters a battle.
Best moveset for Shellos
Scald | Recover |
Earth Power | Toxic |
This moveset focuses on making Shellos as effective as it can be in battle before it’s inevitably knocked out in battle. With different move types, Shellos at least has a chance of hitting a super effective move before it gets sent to the sidelines. Scald is a hard hitting Water move that has a good chance to Burn the target, Earth Power has the chance to lower your opponent’s Special Defense, and Toxic can badly poison your target. Finally, should your Shellos survive the turn, Recover is a nice way to stay in the fight for as long as possible.
How to catch Shellos in Pokemon Go?
At the moment, Shellos does not spawn by simply walking around. The only way to catch Shellos is to either hatch a special 7K egg found by giving friends gifts or in any one star raid. Though word to the wise, both methods are not a guarantee of the West or East Sea variations. For the collectors out there, this can be frustrating but it’s purely up to luck to get both versions of Shellos.
