Introduced in generation five, with the Pokemon Black and White games, Sigilyph is a dual type psychic and fighting Pokemon. It is a standalone Pokemon, which means that it does not evolve from or into any other Pokemon. Sigilyph is classified by the Pokedex as the “Avianoid Pokemon” which indicates its general design. This guide will showcase Sigilyph’s capabilities in battle, its appearances in the anime, as well as other general facts about Sigilyph.
About Sigilyph
Sigilyph made its first appearance on screen in Pokemon the Movie: White-Victini and Zekdrom and Black-Victini and Reshiram. A trainer named Damon used a Sigilyph to lift the Sword of the Vale into the sky. The Pokedex mentions that Sigilyph are guardians that will use their psychic powers to protect an ancient city.

Appearance
Sigilyph is an odd Pokemon with a spherical body and three sets of forked wings. Most of its body is black and green, but its wings are orange with blue and red stripes. There are two eyes on its body and an eye on a black appendage sticking out of the top of its body. It also has two black fork-shaped appendages sticking out of the left and right side of its body. Sigilyph is 4 feet and 7 inches, or 1.4 meters, tall.
Behavior
Throughout the anime, Sigilyph has only had few appearances as they are typically reserved for unique areas or ancient landmarks. They are found near important areas and will use psychic powers to protect their land from intruders. The Pokedex mentions that Sigilyph will patrol the same route to keep watch for their city. Sigilyph prefers desert environments which can draw a connection to the Nazca Lines, a group of geoglyphs in the soil of the Nazca Desert in real life.
Strengths and Weaknesses
Sigilyph can be considered a powerful special attacking Pokemon. It also has a fair share of resistances and can outspeed a good portion of offensive Pokemon. Although its physical attack is low and its health pool is somewhat lacking, it can be a threat in battle.
As a dual type psychic and flying Pokemon, Sigilyph takes 2x damage from rock, ghost, electric, ice, and dark type moves. It is immune to ground type moves and resistant to fighting, grass, and psychic type moves.
Best Moveset
Although Sigilyph has a decent stat line, it has been near the bottom of competitive tier lists since its introduction. It simply falls a little short of an offensive Pokemon. However, with the ability Magic Guard, it can avoid chip damage as well as damage from status effects. Sigilyph can also ignore the damage taken from Life Orb which can increase its offensive capability. Consider running Psyshock/Psychic, Heat Wave, Roost, Energy Ball/Dazzling Gleam. Psyshock/Psychic are interchangeable as Sigilyph’s psychic type move, Heat Wave is for type coverage, Roost can help sustain Sigilyph’s health, and Energy Ball/Dazzling Gleam are interchangeable as type coverage options.

How to Catch Sigilyph in Pokemon Go
If you would like to obtain a Sigilyph in Pokemon Go, you will likely need to travel as it is a region-locked Pokemon. Sigilyph will only spawn naturally in Egypt, Greece, and Israel, and you can also obtain a Sigilyph from 10 km eggs that are obtained from these areas. Unfortunately, it does not seem as if Sigilyph has appeared as a raid boss in these areas and thus you’ll have to find one the hard way. You can find Sigilyph spawning in the wild, at a boosted rate, near hospitals, forests, farmlands, parks, and gardens. Since Sigilyph does not evolve you can save any candies you obtain to power it up.
