Introduced in generation eight, with the Pokemon Sword and Shield games, Skwovet is a monotype normal Pokemon. It is the first stage evolution of its two stage evolution line and evolves into Greedent once it reaches the level threshold. Skwovet is classified by the Pokedex as the “Cheeky Pokemon” which is likely a nod to its general design. This guide will showcase Skwovet’s capabilities in battle, its appearances in the anime, as well as other general facts about Skwovet.
About Skwovet
As a generation eight Pokemon, Skwovet first appeared in the Sword and Shield season of the anime in the episode The Climb to Be the Very Best!. Appearance
Skwovet is a small, brown Pokemon that resembles a fat chipmunk. Most of its body is brown, but it has a white underbelly and an orange nose. There are also orange freckles on Skwovet’s face. Its cheeks always seem to be filled with various foods, giving Skwovet a chunkier appearance. At its base, Skwovet has a large tail that seems to be larger than its whole body. Skwovet is a small Pokemon at only 1 foot, or 0.3 meters, tall.
Behavior
Like squirrels or chipmunks in real life, Skwovet’s cheeks are capable of storing a large amount of food. It typically stuffs its cheeks with berries but if it needs more room, it will use its tail to store some spare food. In the wild, Skwovet will feel uneasy if its mouth is empty of food. As such, they are common to see near farms where their favorite food is plentiful. The Pokedex mentions that due to Skwovet’s nonstop berry eating, it has become much more resilient than it looks.
Strengths and Weaknesses
As a base evolution Pokemon, there are not many strengths regarding Skwovet. Its highest stat is its health pool, but it is not particularly resilient. Its physical stats are higher than its special stats making it a dedicated physical Pokemon. Skwovet has a slow speed stat so it will often move last in battle. As a monotype normal Pokemon, Skwovet takes 2x damage from fighting type moves and it is immune to ghost type moves, but it is not resistant to any types. It will take regular damage from all other types.
Best Moveset
There is little reason to consider using Skwovet in competitive play. Even in the LC (Little Cup) format of competitive play, Skwovet struggles to find success. While it may be difficult to do so, you could run an offensive Skwovet that tries to utilize Belly Drum to maximize the amount of physical damage you can deal. With Substitute you can protect your Skwovet, but you will need to use a berry held item along with its ability Cheek Pouch to use both Belly Drum and Substitute. Consider running Belly Drum, Gyro Ball, Body Slam, and Substitute. After you have set up Belly Drum and Substitute, you can use Body Slam and Gyro Ball to knock out your opponent’s Pokemon.

How to Catch Skwovet in Pokemon Go?
Unfortunately, Skwovet is not currently available for capture in Pokemon Go. The developers will likely add it into the game once they reach generation eight Pokemon, but they will probably finish releasing generation six and seven Pokemon before then. Until Skwovet is released, we will not know for sure if it will hatch from eggs, if it will appear as a raid boss, or how many candies it will require to evolve. Once Skwovet is released, you can find it spawning at a boosted rate near residential areas, universities, and parking lots.
Trivia
- The inspiration for Skwovet’s design seems to be based on Eastern gray squirrel, an invasive species in Great Britain.
- The name Skwovet is a combination of the words squirrel and covet.
FAQ
What is Skwovet’s Evolution?
Skwovet will evolve into Greedent once it reaches level 24 and this rounds out its two stage evolution line and there are no additional evolution conditions to fulfill. Once your Skwovet reaches the level threshold, you just need to let the evolution animation play without pressing the “B” button.
What does Skwovet mean?
The name Skwovet seems to be a combination of the words squirrel and covet. Its resemblance to squirrels in its appearance and behavior is likely why squirrel is included in its name. Since Skwovet is known to covet and hoard food, this explains how Skwovet’s name came to be.
Is Skwovet any good?
There is nothing particularly impressive about Skwovet. In fact, almost anything that Skwovet can accomplish could probably be handled better in the hands of another Pokemon. It has not been used often in competitive history. Unfortunately for Skwovet, its abilities Cheek Pouch and Gluttony would love to utilize the move Recycle, but Skwovet cannot learn it.
Conclusion
Congratulations, you now know just about everything there is to know about this “Cheeky Pokemon”. While Skwovet has not had the biggest impact on competitive play, it can be made much more powerful through its abilities. As Skwovet evolves, it becomes more capable of taking and dealing damage. You will want to plan for Skwovet’s abilities as well as ensure Skwovet does not face special attacking Pokemon. Reserve a slot on your team for Skwovet if you want a physical dedicated normal type Pokemon.
